Explosions in Syrian capital near French President Macron's hotel
Multiple explosions occurred near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron is staying in Damascus, Syria. The blasts took place near the Ministry of Tourism, which is located across from the Four Seasons Hotel. According to Syrian authorities, two explosives detonated—one in a trash bin and another in a parked car—while bomb disposal experts were preparing to defuse them. Eighteen people were injured, including four police officers. Macron was not present during the explosions, as he was traveling to meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The incident comes days after a bombing at a crowded café in Damascus killed at least ten people. Macron arrived in Damascus yesterday, marking the first visit by an EU leader to the country since the fall of Assad’s regime at the end of 2024.
