The government has begun distributing the annual 2,500 peso stipend for school supplies and uniforms starting Monday, August 3, 2026. The program, part of the federal scholarship system, will benefit approximately 6 million 694 thousand 988 students in basic education, with a total investment of 16 billion 700 million pesos. This initiative was announced by Julio César León Trujillo, the national coordinator of Scholarships for Wellbeing, during the morning conference of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The disbursement will take place in stages based on the initial letter of the beneficiaries' surnames. Students whose last names begin with A and B will receive their funds on Monday, August 3. Those with C will get theirs on Tuesday, August 4, followed by D, E, and F on Wednesday, August 5. Distribution continues through the week, with letters G on Thursday, August 6, and H, I, J, K, and L on Friday, August 7. The process concludes on August 14, when the remaining letters will be processed. According to León Trujillo, this support aligns with the government's efforts to strengthen the national scholarship system. He noted that currently, 19 million 593 thousand 156 students receive some form of educational assistance, and the goal is to increase this number to 22 million by 2026. The distribution of scholarships is considered critical as families prepare for the new school year, ensuring children have access to necessary materials. The program also includes the incorporation of primary school students, which has reached an 95.1% completion rate in the delivery of Bank of Wellbeing cards. Over 4.7 million of the planned five million cards have been distributed so far. León Trujillo emphasized that under President Sheinbaum’s instructions, authorities aim to achieve a 100% delivery rate. This involves ongoing operations at local centers and home visits for those unable to attend assemblies or face mobility challenges. He reiterated that the president has directed officials to reach every corner of the country and ensure all cards are delivered. Beneficiaries are advised to download the Bank of Wellbeing app to check their balances or contact the institution via phone lines. The system maintains coverage for secondary public school students through the Rita Cetina Scholarship, and for high school students through the Benito Juárez Scholarship. The Gertrudis Bocanegra Scholarship, aimed at higher education, is expanding its reach to Zacatecas and Chiapas this academic cycle. The distribution follows broader efforts to improve access to education and reduce financial barriers for low-income families. The government has prioritized these measures as part of its commitment to equitable education. As the disbursement progresses, officials continue monitoring the process to ensure timely and accurate delivery to all eligible students. The schedule provides clarity for families, allowing them to plan accordingly for the upcoming school term.
