Ana Francisca Vega began her new cycle at MVS Noticias this Monday, August 10, following the departure of Luis Cárdenas after 16 years with the organization. Vega took over the morning slot, marking the start of her tenure in the news program. Her transition comes just days after Cárdenas announced his exit from MVS, ending a long career with the media outlet. In her first broadcast, Vega emphasized the core values she would uphold during her time at MVS. She made it clear that the defense of freedom of expression and editorial independence would not be subject to discussion or compromise. Speaking directly to her audience, she expressed gratitude to listeners and social media followers who had supported her work throughout her career. “I arrive here to add value, to build, to continue a legacy of journalistic rigor,” she stated during her introduction. “I recognize each voice that has come before me.” Vega underscored that these principles, freedom of speech and editorial autonomy, are foundational to the integrity of the platform and will remain steadfast regardless of external pressures or political shifts. She further explained that her commitment would center on delivering accurate information and fostering respectful dialogue among diverse viewpoints. Vega highlighted the importance of creating spaces where individuals with differing opinions can engage constructively, emphasizing that such exchanges are vital for strengthening democracy and maintaining freedom of expression in Mexico. “This space will remain open, pluralistic, and critical,” she concluded. “It is a news program meant to inform, understand, and listen to the rich diversity that defines our country.” Vega, a well-known journalist in Mexico, has built a distinguished career spanning radio, television, and digital platforms. She holds a degree in Political Science and International Relations from the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) and later earned a Master's in International Relations from the University of Oxford, specifically from St. Antony’s College, as part of the 2003 cohort. Her academic background has paved the way for international recognition. She received the Chevening Scholarship from the British government and was awarded a fellowship by The Washington Post-Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars. Vega played a key role in founding AnimalPolítico.com, a prominent blog focused on political commentary and animal rights advocacy. Throughout her career, she has contributed to several major Mexican media outlets, including Radio Fórmula, W Radio, EL UNIVERSAL, Milenio Diario, and El Economista. Additionally, she has collaborated with international publications such as Time, Slate, and The Washington Post. She has also participated in notable projects like bloggingheads.tv and Zócalo Public Square, which bring together journalists and thinkers for public discourse. Beyond journalism, Vega has authored books that reflect her deep engagement with Mexican society. In 2019, she published Mexicanos Como Yo: 50 Personajes Que Hacen De Este Un País Fantástico, edited by Planeta. The book features profiles of 50 individuals who have left their mark on Mexico through their contributions in various fields. Prior to this, in 2011, she co-edited Twitter y Cambio Político en México, published by Random House Mondadori, exploring the impact of social media on political change in the country.
