Ahinda groups must develop political awareness, says Yathindra Siddaramaiah

Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah has called for Ahinda groups, comprising minorities, backward classes, and Dalit communities, to expand their political outreach beyond state and district levels into rural areas. Speaking at a conference held by the Bidar district unit of Shoshita Samudayagala Okkuta on Tuesday, Mr. Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of strengthening political awareness among marginalized communities to achieve social and political empowerment. The minister highlighted that true progress for these groups could only occur through collective action and increased political consciousness starting at the grassroots level. During the event, Siddaramaiah noted that historically, figures such as Buddha, Basaveshwara, and B.R. Ambedkar had long campaigned against caste-based discrimination and social inequality. Despite these efforts, caste divisions still persist, underscoring the necessity for unity among oppressed communities. He stated that the Ahinda movement had played a crucial role in raising political awareness among backward and marginalized sections of society. The minister further urged the protection of the Indian Constitution, the implementation of the caste survey report, and ensuring reservations based on population statistics. He reiterated that equality forms the cornerstone of the Constitution and stressed the need to bolster organizations dedicated to social justice while continuing the fight for constitutional rights. His remarks came amid growing discussions within political circles about how best to address systemic inequalities affecting these communities. Congress MP Sagar Khandre echoed similar sentiments during the conference, stating that there should be focused efforts to enhance the representation of Ahinda communities. He mentioned that he had already communicated his stance regarding granting more representation to these groups in both party structures and local administrative roles. This aligns with broader initiatives aimed at integrating underrepresented communities into decision-making processes at all levels of governance. Rajesh Lilothia, an observer from the All India Congress Committee, emphasized that the pursuit of social justice revolves around upholding constitutional values. He encouraged individuals to actively participate in safeguarding equality and democratic rights, reinforcing the idea that political engagement is key to achieving lasting change. Several prominent figures attended the conference, including former Minister Rahim Khan, former MLA Ashok Kheny, BUDA president Basavaraj Jabashetty, and other leaders from Okkuta. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the collective commitment to advancing the cause of Ahinda communities. The call for expanded political awareness comes at a time when the issue of caste-based discrimination continues to be a pressing concern in many parts of the country.
