75-year-old visually impaired woman killed in clash over old rivalry in Lucknow

A violent clash erupted between Sikh pilgrims and local residents in Uttarakhand, resulting in five injuries, according to reports from local media outlets. The incident took place near Panch Puliya in Karnprayag, where a dispute over parking space escalated into a confrontation. Eyewitness accounts cited by news agencies indicate that the conflict began when a group of pilgrims attempting to reach Hemkund Sahib parked their vehicle in front of a local hotel. This act reportedly triggered an argument, which quickly turned hostile. Pilgrims, armed with swords and kirpans—traditional Sikh weapons—were accused of attacking nearby residents. As a result, several individuals were injured, including a man from Punjab’s Mohali and four residents of Karnprayag. One of the victims was placed in critical condition and required transfer to another hospital for more advanced medical attention.

The unrest prompted locals to take to the streets, blocking the Badrinath National Highway (NH-07) for approximately four hours. The incident occurred in Mawai Padiyana village under the jurisdiction of Banthra police station. Reports state that the conflict, rooted in longstanding animosity, escalated into physical altercations and stone-throwing. The victim, identified as Siyavati Rawat, suffered a fatal head injury, while her son, Rajendra Rawat, sustained injuries during the clash. Preliminary investigations suggest that some of the involved parties had consumed alcohol prior to the incident, contributing to heightened tensions. The families involved allege that the feud dates back to when Rajendra, who had previously moved to Rajasthan with the wife of his neighbor Manohar, returned to live separately. Tensions resurfaced when Rajendra claimed he was assaulted on the roof of his home, with his mother being struck when she attempted to intervene.

Authorities have initiated legal proceedings, registering cases of murder and voluntary causing of hurt against Dharmendra and Govind, sons of Manohar, along with his wife Basanti and brother Pancham. Three individuals have been detained in connection with the incident, with Dharmendra currently under police supervision.
