65 arrested in Hong Kong crackdown targeting illicit triad-linked income sources

Hong Kong police, in collaboration with fire services and immigration authorities, arrested 65 individuals over two days as part of a crackdown targeting illegal activities linked to triads. The operation included raids on five illegal gambling establishments and four premises associated with illegal prostitution, resulting in the seizure of gambling equipment, approximately HK$30,000 in betting profits, and over 18,000 liters of illicit fuel. Among those detained were 11 non-local sex workers and 54 others involved in illegal gambling operations, some of whom had ties to triad organizations. Authorities also shut down a 279-square-meter illegal petrol station. Superintendent Lui Sze-ho noted that some triad members used residential properties as fronts for illegal mahjong games and exploited the World Cup to manage illegal football betting.
