Ownership & classification
Founded: 1943
Ownership
Slobodna Dalmacija is a Split-based Croatian daily first published on 17 June 1943 by Tito's Partisans. It is privately owned by Hanza Media d.o.o., the publishing group built around the Jutarnji list daily and Sportske novosti; Hanza Media bought Slobodna Dalmacija in 2014 after the group was taken over by lawyer/businessman Marijan Hanzekovic (the group, formerly Europapress Holding/EPH, was renamed Hanza Media in 2016). Ownership of Hanza Media is held within the Hanzekovic family (Ana Hanzekovic Krznaric).
Funding
Commercially financed through advertising, newsstand print sales and digital subscriptions, with revenue pooled across the Hanza Media portfolio. It receives no licence-fee or party budget.
Affiliation & stance
Editorially mainstream and broadly centrist, with no formal party or state tie. Because it is privately and commercially owned by the Hanza Media group and not controlled by a party, church or the state, it is classified INDEPENDENT, consistent with the site's current guess.
