Ownership
SKAI is the flagship of the Skai Group (operating company News Dot Com S.A.), a private Greek media conglomerate controlled by the Alafouzos shipping family. Shipowner Giannis (Ioannis) Alafouzos is the majority shareholder and head of the group, which also owns Skai TV, Skai 100.3 radio and the daily newspaper Kathimerini. The skai.gr web portal is operated within this group. The Skai TV brand began broadcasting in 1993 (sold and rebranded as Alpha TV in 1999, then relaunched under the Skai name in 2006 after Alafouzos acquired Seven TV).
Funding
Commercially financed through television and radio advertising, digital advertising on its portals, and revenue from its publishing/broadcasting operations. As a private group it receives no licence-fee money; it competes for the same state advertising and broadcasting licences as other commercial Greek outlets (it paid €43.6m for a national TV licence).
Affiliation & stance
Privately and commercially owned by the Alafouzos family with no party or state ownership, which makes it INDEPENDENT. Editorially it is generally read as centre-right/liberal, and like other Greek private media its coverage reflects its owner's business interests, but it is not controlled by a party, church or the state.

Sudan's RSF closes in on Al Obeid as UN warned of imminent atrocities
Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, is advancing toward Al Obeid in the North Kordofan region, which is currently held by the Sudanese army. The city has experienced significant disruptions due to RSF drone strikes targeting both military and civilian infrastructure, including the main power station, leading to power outages, water shortages, and hospital operations being affected. Residents report that life remains mostly normal despite these challenges, though fuel shortages persist after attacks on gas stations. Videos circulating online show RSF fighters claiming they will capture Al Obeid within days. Al Obeid is strategically important as it houses the army's 5th Infantry Division and serves as a major commercial hub. Losing this city would be a significant setback for the army, similar to their previous loss of El Fasher in Darfur, which led to widespread atrocities by the RSF. In response, multiple countries, including Norway, Britain, France, and Germany, have raised concerns at the UN Human Rights Council, warning of potential large-scale atrocities if the RSF escalates its assault on Al Obeid.

In 15 regions of Russia, restrictions on the sale of fuel were introduced for 24 hours
At least 15 regions in Russia implemented fuel sales restrictions on June 23 due to a fuel shortage caused by attacks on oil refining facilities by Ukrainian drones. The restrictions include limiting fuel purchases to specific volumes per person and banning refueling into cans. These measures were introduced in major regions such as Khanty-Mansiysk, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Penza, Omsk, Voronezh, Murmansk, and Krasnoyarsk. Authorities cited the need to prevent artificial shortages and excessive demand. In Irkutsk Oblast, some gas stations imposed limits while others stopped operating entirely. Governor Igor Kobzev initially linked the fuel shortage to drone strikes but later removed this statement. In Vladimir Oblast, residents were urged to reduce car travel, and in North Ossetia, authorities ordered the creation of an emergency fuel reserve. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak described the situation as 'not simple but controlled,' attributing regional restrictions to temporary logistical issues. Fuel sales have effectively halted in Crimea after an attack on a logistics hub in the Kerch Strait, with the Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service also禁止

An American gets the maximum amount of recovery time at Wimbledon.
The article discusses the scheduling of the first-round doubles match at Wimbledon involving American tennis player Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams against the Argentine-Colombian pair Solana Sierra and Camila Osorio. The match was initially scheduled for Thursday and Friday but has been postponed due to Serena's injury during her singles match. Tournament organizer Andy Murray (likely a misstatement, as Andy Murray is a British player, and the correct name might be someone like Ashley Barker or another official) stated they are giving Serena as much time as possible to recover. They ruled out postponing the match to later dates unless necessary for safety or tournament flow. The match is expected to take place on a larger court to accommodate the large crowd attracted by Serena and Venus, who are major stars. Serena returned to professional tennis after four years, but she lost her first singles match and injured her knee. She did not attend a press conference afterward due to health reasons and expressed her commitment to participating in the doubles event. Serena and Venus have won six doubles titles together, including a title in 2016.

Ukraine reports two dead after night attacks by Russia, with the death toll in Kiev rising to 30.
At least two people were killed and eight injured in Russian air strikes on the Sumy region and Kryvyj Rih in Ukraine during the night of Thursday to Friday, according to Ukrainian authorities. This follows a large-scale Russian attack on Kyiv earlier in the week which killed at least 30 people and injured around 100 others. In response to the attacks, Ukraine conducted missile strikes on Belgorod in Russia, causing a fire at an energy facility and killing one woman, according to Russian media. The overnight strike on the city of Romny in the Sumy region hit a residential building, killing two women and injuring a man, reported regional administrator Oleh Hryhorov via Telegram. Another seven people were injured in a missile strike on Kryvyj Rih, according to military city administrator Oleksandr Vilkul. In Kyiv, teams discovered three more dead bodies during the night, bringing the total number of victims to 30, according to Reuters citing Ukrainian health authorities. Kyiv's military administrator Tymur Tkačenko stated that the attack injured 99 people. Moscow claimed the extensive attack was a response to Ukrainian strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, including those carried

What about the alleged manager's statements?
The Panathinaikos football club has clarified that Facundo Pellistri, the Uruguayan winger, has no intention of leaving the team at this time. This comes after some statements circulating abroad attributed to a supposed manager of Pellistri suggested he might be considering a transfer. However, Panathinaikos denied any communication with this individual and stated they are not part of CAA Stellar, the agency representing Pellistri. The club confirmed that their technical director, Stefanos Kotzolis, has spoken directly with Douglas Manasseh of CAA Stellar, who conveyed that Pellistri is fully committed to Panathinaikos and intends to work hard this season to help both the team and himself. Meanwhile, other reports suggest Pellistri's manager is seeking opportunities for a potential move, but if none materialize, Pellistri will remain with Panathinaikos.

2026 World Cup: Pochettino's U.S. is making history at home
The article discusses the performance of the U.S. national football team at the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, highlighting their ability to balance enthusiasm and pressure. Under coach Mauricio Pochettino, the team has shown cohesion and confidence, starting the tournament with high expectations. They secured victories against Paraguay (4-1) and Australia (2-0), though suffered a defeat to Turkey (2-3). In the Round of 32, they defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina (2-0) despite playing with ten men for much of the match after the red card against Baloghán. The article emphasizes the team’s identity under Pochettino, focusing on high intensity, aggressive pressing, and quick transitions. It notes the effective use of a broad roster, with multiple players contributing in different matches, and highlights the team’s consistent scoring ability, having scored at least two goals in every group stage game—a historic record for the U.S. National Team. A 21-year-old taxi driver was arrested by police from the Traffic Accident Prevention Unit of the Attica Police Department for overcharging passengers for a ride from Athens International Airport to the city center. The driver collected €175 for the trip, which was more than four times the legal fare. According to the Hellenic Police, this occurred on the morning of July 3. A report was filed against him for collecting an illegal fare, and he was taken to the competent prosecutor. The article also includes other unrelated news items, such as a man accused of attempting to suffocate an 8-year-old with a pillow in Crete, the dismantling of a criminal organization linked to hooliganism in Thessaloniki, and the arrest of a firestarter in Agrinion.

Greek shipowners are investing nearly $40 billion in the tankers of the future
Greek shipowners are investing nearly $40 billion in new tanker orders by 2026, according to research by Goships Intelligence. This investment represents approximately 60% of global investments by the world’s five largest shipping nations in new tanker orders this year. The study highlights that Greek companies are strategically updating and expanding their fleets, with 141 new tankers ordered, including 44 Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs). These ships are expected to be delivered starting in 2028, reflecting long-term planning for oil transportation needs. Factors driving this strategy include limited shipbuilding capacity, aging global tanker fleets, and international sanctions reducing available vessels. The example of the Dynacom group, which sold 16 older tankers and ordered 36 new ones within six months, illustrates this renewal approach. Greece remains the top country globally in terms of commercial fleet capacity, further strengthening its position in the global oil supply chain.

The sun will come out whether you like it or not, watch the video
The article discusses Dimitris Giannakopoulos, the strongman of Panathinaikos Basketball Club, who posted a message on Instagram hinting at the return of Zeljko Obradovic to the team's coaching staff. The post included a sunrise photo from his favorite spot in Sunion, accompanied by the caption 'The sun will come out whether you want it or not.' According to reports, Obradovic has arrived in Athens and is expected to meet with Giannakopoulos over the weekend. Obradovic is reportedly close to returning to the head coaching position, though he proposed Zoran Savic for the general manager role, which was rejected due to Savic's past with PAOK. Discussions are also ongoing regarding potential assistant coaches, with Vasilis Xanthopoulos and Elias Papatheodorou being considered.

In the tropical Pacific, El Niño conditions have set in, researchers say.
The article reports that researchers from New Zealand’s Earth Sciences organization (ESNZ) have identified conditions consistent with the El Niño climate phenomenon in the tropical Pacific. They warn that impacts on New Zealand’s weather are likely to intensify over the coming months. The ESNZ joined other organizations in Australia, Japan, and the U.S. in confirming the development of El Niño, which is expected to reach strong intensity between July and September. The effects are projected to peak during the Southern Hemisphere summer, spanning late 2023 into early 2024. According to lead researcher Chris Brandolini, this El Niño event is at least comparable in strength to five of the strongest recorded El Niños in modern history. The article outlines regional rainfall expectations, noting potential below-average precipitation in some areas and above-normal levels in others. It also mentions possible temperature fluctuations and increased wind variability later in the year. Additionally, it notes two lower-probability risks: sudden stratospheric warming and the occurrence of a tropical cyclone outside the typical season, both historically linked to El Niño. Brandolini connects the

The situation surrounding the transfer of Argentine forward Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid has escalated dramatically, with reports indicating that a potential deal could involve a package worth up to €500 million. This figure is significant enough to potentially alter the dynamics around the player's future. Atlético Madrid continues to deny any discussions regarding his departure, considering him a key part of their project under Diego Simeone. However, such large sums often make previously unthinkable scenarios possible. Álvarez remains firm in his decision to seek a new chapter in his career, turning the summer saga into a high-stakes financial thriller.
