Ownership & classification
Founded: 1950
Ownership
GMA News Online is the digital news platform of GMA Network, Inc., one of the Philippines' two dominant free-to-air broadcasters, operated through subsidiary GMA New Media. GMA Network is a publicly listed company (since 2007) but remains controlled by three intermarried founding families: the Gozon, Jimenez and Duavit clans, whose combined holdings give them majority voting control. The network was founded in 1950 as Republic Broadcasting System and passed to Filipino owners Felipe Gozon, Menardo Jimenez and Gilberto Duavit Sr. in the 1970s.
Funding
GMA is financed commercially, primarily through television and digital advertising revenue, plus content licensing and other media operations; the online arm earns from digital ads. It is not state- or party-funded.
Affiliation & stance
GMA is a commercially run, family-controlled listed broadcaster with a generally centrist, mainstream editorial line and no formal party or government ownership. Because control rests with private commercial owners rather than a party or the state, it is INDEPENDENT.

PNP finalizing security preps for Sara Duterte impeachment trial

The PNP chief stated that multiple units would be involved to ensure adequate security during the trial, which is set to begin on July 6. Security measures have already included deploying NCRPO personnel to the Senate since May 11, following the return of Senator Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa, who faces an ICC arrest warrant related to alleged involvement in former President Rodrigo Duterte's drug war.

Iglesia ni Cristo mounts surprise rally to protest possible Marcoleta arrest
Members of the Iglesia ni Cristo held a rally in Quezon City on June 30, 2026, protesting the potential arrest of Senator Rodante Marcoleta, who faces plunder charges under Republic Act No. 7080. The rally, which caused traffic disruptions on EDSA, was organized in support of Marcoleta, an INC member under investigation for alleged misuse of public funds. INC spokesperson Edwil Zabala criticized the charges, arguing that Marcoleta was instrumental in exposing corruption and questioned why he was being targeted instead of those implicated in the alleged plunder. Marcoleta, who spent P112 million on his 2025 senatorial campaign despite declaring no contributions and having a net worth of P51 million, claimed he received P75 million in pre-campaign donations. While the Commission on Elections ruled no rules were broken, the justice department noted that Marcoleta received the funds while serving as a congressman. The Ombudsman announced plans to file plunder charges against Marcoleta before the Sandiganbayan.

Remulla maintains he didn’t initiate Marcoleta probe
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin 'Boying' Remulla clarified that he did not personally order the investigation into Senator Rodante Marcoleta over a P75-million campaign donation that was not declared as required by election laws. Marcoleta had previously claimed the funds came from anonymous donors, but the amount was not reported in his required financial disclosures. While the Commission on Elections (Comelec) cleared Marcoleta of election offenses related to the nondisclosure, the Ombudsman's office recommended charges of plunder. Remulla emphasized that the investigation was initiated internally by a team within the Office of the Ombudsman based on available evidence, rather than being prompted by external complaints. He acknowledged the growing public reaction, including an Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) rally, which accused authorities of 'selective justice.'
