Ownership
Družina is the publishing house of the Slovenian Roman Catholic Church. The company Družina d.o.o. (Ljubljana) is owned by the Catholic dioceses of Slovenia: the Archdiocese of Ljubljana (Nadškofija Ljubljana) alongside the dioceses of Koper, Celje, Novo Mesto and Murska Sobota. The weekly began in 1952 under apostolic administrator Mihael Toroš and became the joint publication of all Slovenian dioceses in 1965.
Funding
Financed mainly through copy sales/subscriptions of the weekly Družina and through its book publishing and Catholic-goods retail, plus advertising; it is a long-running, high-circulation paid weekly rather than a budget-funded outlet.
Affiliation & stance
Družina is the official newspaper of the Catholic Church in Slovenia, with an explicitly Catholic, socially conservative, center-right editorial line. Because the company is owned and controlled by Church (diocesan) bodies rather than being a freely commercial outlet, it is correctly classed DEPENDENT (controlled by a religious institution).

Danes se odpira najslajša razstava v Mariboru, obiskovalce pa čaka tudi prav posebno presenečenje
The city of Maribor is set to open an exhibition titled '50 Years of Sweet Memories: The Story of Maribor's Lastovka' on July 3, 2026, which will remain open throughout the summer. The exhibition was conceived by curator Jan Malec, who explained that the idea originated from local community resistance against the privatization of the building six years ago. Today, around 90% of the exhibits come from stories shared by citizens and visitors, many of whom visit specifically because of Lastovka, a beloved local ice cream shop. Malec noted that Lastovka has been a long-time partner, having sponsored the renovation of the Trafika building and maintaining a friendly relationship with the museum. The exhibition will feature a mix of photographs, historical facts, and artifacts, including a 20-year-old hat and the first ice cream vending machine. The Lastovka family's history dates back to 1923, with their operations beginning in Maribor in 1969 with a single ice cream machine. Over the decades, the family business expanded into a successful enterprise now managed by the third generation. The exhibition aims to highlight both the historical significance and the cultural impact of Lastovka,

The class for himself: the wimp before the Tour has increased the advantage over Vingegaard
Tadej Pogačar currently leads the cycling rankings with 11,593 points, significantly ahead of Jonas Vingegaard, who has 8,625 points and won last year's Giro d'Italia. Pogačar's teammate Isaac del Toro ranks third with 5,340 points. Pogačar recently secured three stages and a team victory at the Swiss race, preparing him for his upcoming Tour de France campaign, where he aims to win his fifth overall title, matching a record. In the all-time weekly ranking, Pogačar is 248th, while his compatriot Primož Roglič holds the second spot with 75 weeks at the top. Roglič has climbed three places to become the 43rd best cyclist globally. Other Slovenian cyclists like Matej Mohorič and Jakob Omrzel are among the top 200 riders and will likely compete at the national championships. Slovenia's top eight cyclists have enough combined points to secure fourth place in the national standings, behind Belgium, Denmark, and France. In women's cycling, Dutch rider Demi Vollering leads with 6,705 points, followed by Spanish rider Paula Blasi and another Dutch cyclist Anna van der Breggen. Slovenian cyclist Urška Žigart, after suffering a jaw fracture during the Swiss race, has dropped to 37th in the U2

Has the Constitutional Court disregarded the rule of law and ruled in favour of the usurpers of RTV?
The Constitutional Court of Slovenia has reportedly made a decision in the case involving RTV (Radio Television of Slovenia), with five judges voting against two. This decision could be seen as a blow to the rule of law, as critics argue the entire process surrounding the new RTV law has been heavily influenced by politics rather than legal or professional standards. The court previously stated it would not make content-related decisions, which confused many due to the significance of the issue for a key public institution. Two judges were excluded from the decision-making process due to potential conflicts of interest, including President Rok Čeferin, who has ties to a law firm associated with RTV, and Neža Kogovšek Šalamon, who worked at the Peace Institute involved in the referendum campaign related to the RTV law. Critics argue the new RTV law was politically motivated, giving significant influence over editorial policies to a leftist faction. The process was further complicated by legal challenges and lack of broad consensus, with opponents claiming the law allows any ruling party to reshape RTV according to their agenda. May your hot summer be brightened by the new regiment of the Sasha Avsenik Ensemble: Raffaello
The Slovenian music group Ansambel Saša Avsenika has released a new polka titled 'Raffaello,' which they describe as capturing the light-hearted summer atmosphere with a catchy melody and positive energy. The song is intended for dancing and creating joyful memories during festivals and gatherings. The band members emphasize their goal of connecting people through music, drawing on their background in a musical family and values learned at home. The title was inspired by the association with a popular coconut candy, reflecting the carefree spirit of summer. The song's lyrics are designed to evoke the feeling of summer, with the band hoping it will become a staple at celebrations.

Slovenian charity collects aid for people in Venezuela after devastating earthquake
Slovenia's Caritas has begun collecting funds to assist residents of Venezuela affected by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 that struck on June 24. The natural disaster caused casualties, injuries, and significant damage to housing and infrastructure. Many people were left homeless and without basic necessities. The situation is further complicated by Venezuela's ongoing political and economic crisis, which has led to widespread poverty and lack of access to food, water, electricity, medicine, and fuel. Caritas Venezuela immediately started helping those affected and called on the international Caritas network for solidarity. Slovenia's Caritas, which has supported humanitarian programs in Venezuela since 2017, responded with a new fundraising campaign. Caritas Venezuela's executive director emphasized the fragility of human life and the need for mutual solidarity, stating that Caritas is present among people to provide comfort and concrete assistance. Staff members are assessing the damage and gathering data on urgent needs. Caritas Venezuela has established a national collection center for clean water, unspoiled food, medicines, and financial contributions. In the几天

Floating Castle Festival on a smaller scale and with a new location, the central event in Ljubljana
The floating city festival, known as 'Plavajoči grad,' has undergone a conceptual change this year, moving from Grad Snežnik to Istrian villages of Truške and Kubed. The event will take place in a smaller format at a new location in Slovenian Istria, featuring 75 musicians from 22 countries. The central event of the summer program includes an international orchestra called Etno Histeria, which creates its entire repertoire without sheet music within five days. This year's highlight is a performance titled 'Requiem for Sara' in Ljubljana, where the orchestra will play on two boats drifting along the river between Zmajski Bridge and Trnovsko Nabrežje. The event honors Sara, a Palestinian girl who previously collaborated with the orchestra but later lost her life in Gaza. The festival also collaborates with artists from Gaza through the Global Art Mobilization collective, aiming to break cultural barriers and build bridges between people.

Priest between rock, fire and word
The article discusses the role and responsibilities of priests within the Church, using biblical references to Saint Peter, Paul, Cyril, and Methodius as examples of moral and spiritual leadership. It emphasizes that true priesthood involves love, service, and pastoral care rather than power or prestige. The piece critiques modern challenges facing the Church, particularly referencing Pope Leo XIII’s call to the Order of St. Pius X for new bishops, which is interpreted as a broader issue concerning community engagement, obedience, and pastoral responsibility. The author argues that clergy should embody Christ’s message directly and serve the people rather than seeking personal gain or authority.

After a six-year hiatus, the Piranha Cinema is back under the stars.
After six years of inactivity, the Piran Open-Air Cinema, known as 'Piran under the Stars,' is returning with nine free film screenings scheduled from July 1 to August 26. The event was originally organized by Piran's priest Zorko Bajc in collaboration with the Auditorium and later with the Piran Citizens' Association, but eventually fell into disuse. Now, the Cultural-Artistic Society Škver, along with the Parish of Piran and local film enthusiasts, has revived the tradition with support from the Municipality of Piran, the Portorož Tourism Association, and local donors. The cinema will take place in the Georgios Center Courtyard, featuring films from various countries, including a premiere of the Slovenian film 'Hidden People' directed by Miha Hočevar. The organizers emphasize community involvement and volunteer efforts, highlighting the return of this beloved cultural event.

The Vatican has excommunicated the bishops of an ultraconservative fraternity.
The Vatican has announced the excommunication of six bishops from the traditionalist Catholic group Fraternitas Societas Sancti Pii X. These bishops participated in the ordination of four new bishops in Switzerland on Wednesday, despite warnings from the Holy See that such actions would constitute schism and result in excommunication. The decision was made by Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernández, prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, who stated that two bishops—Alfonso de Galarreta and Bernard Fellay—who performed the ordinations, along with four newly ordained bishops, had committed 'schismatic acts' and were therefore excommunicated. The Vatican also reported that lay members officially affiliated with the group were also excommunicated. The ordination took place without papal approval, which the Vatican considers a schismatic act under canon law. Pope Francis had previously warned the group’s leader, Italian traditionalist priest David Pagliarani, against ordaining new bishops, emphasizing the Church’s openness to dialogue.

The new bronze bells have sounded in Tupalica.
In the parish church of Saint Clement in Tupalič, one of the oldest churches in the Parish of Preddvor, three new bronze bells were installed and blessed on Sunday, June 21, 2026. The bells were ordered due to the wear and excessive volume of the old iron bells, which had served faithfully for over a century. The installation was part of a broader restoration project funded by municipal grants for cultural heritage preservation and voluntary donations. The event included a solemn blessing ceremony led by Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Dr. Mitja Leskovar, who personally blessed each bell before placing them in the renovated bell tower. The new bells, each dedicated to different saints, are expected to complement existing bells used for teaching and ringing ceremonies. The ceremony concluded with a procession, a report from the working committee, speeches, and a hymn of gratitude.

For Respect for Human Life
The article discusses a video message from Pope Leo XIV, which was released in July 2026 with a spiritual focus on respecting human life. In the message, the Pope calls on his followers to view the Church as an open home where no one feels unnecessary and where every person is recognized as worthy of love. He emphasizes that life has an eternal dimension and urges people to accept life unconditionally, support fragility with tenderness, respect every stage of life, and courageously defend those who lack a voice. The Pope also asks for forgiveness for moments of carelessness or rejection, when others are no longer seen as beings deserving of love.
