The police have denied claims that the new acting director of the National Investigative Office (NPU), Borut Franc, sent a report regarding the alleged involvement of Rok Snežič in the Dars case to the specialized state prosecution office. According to statements made by the police to STA, the report was submitted on June 12, prior to the appointment of the current acting director of the NPU. This date is significant as it precedes the transition of leadership within the NPU, which saw Darko Muženič step down from his position on June 22 and move to a role as a police advisor at the Police Academy. On the same day, Franc was appointed as the acting director of the NPU.

Rok Snežič, who has been central to the controversy surrounding the Dars affair, claimed that the new director of the NPU had submitted a report to the prosecution stating that there were no concrete evidence gathered by the police indicating that he received 90,000 euros from an unnamed whistleblower for the benefit of the SDS party. The report also noted that this information had been waiting in the system for a year before being submitted. However, the police have refuted these claims, emphasizing that the report was indeed submitted on June 12 under the previous director's tenure.

The Dars affair first came to light in the autumn of 2023 when POP TV published the testimony of an anonymous whistleblower alleging that Snežič had accepted bribes to secure business dealings with Dars. The television station also released footage showing Snežič receiving 5,000 euros, suggesting he might have collected a total of 90,000 euros from the whistleblower for the benefit of the SDS party. At the time, both Valentin Hajdinjak, then president of Dars management, and Snežič denied all allegations, with the SDS also rejecting the claims. Hajdinjak later resigned from his position at Dars in November of the same year, asserting that he had led the company responsibly and lawfully.

In April 2024, six months after the media exposure of irregularities, the NPU conducted house searches at Dars and also approached Hajdinjak and Snežič. Six individuals were suspected of criminal acts, including Snežič and former maintenance director of Dars, Damijan Jaklin, now serving as a state secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy. A criminal charge against Jaklin was reportedly filed earlier this year.

According to the police, they have already confirmed to STA that they submitted a report to the specialized state prosecution office in accordance with the law on criminal proceedings. However, they did not provide specific details about the physical persons involved due to the need to protect personal data. The police stated that such reports are submitted when there is insufficient basis for a criminal charge based on the information gathered. Now, the specialized state prosecution office will decide whether to conclude the case or request additional clarifications or further procedures based on the police report.
