Ex-Bauchi-Rep verlässt APC für PRP

A former member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Danmaliki, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the opposition Peoples Redemption Party (PRP). The move comes amid preparations for the 2027 general elections and marks a significant shift in political allegiance within northern Nigeria. Danmaliki, who represents the Bauchi Federal Constituency, made the announcement during a press briefing on Saturday, stating that his decision was based on careful reflection and a desire to align himself with principles over political convenience. Danmaliki, who has been actively engaged in Nigerian politics since 2003, served as a local government official before entering national politics. His career includes roles such as a journalist, commissioner, and president of the Bauchi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture. He has also played a key role in establishing educational and healthcare institutions in the region. In his statement, he emphasized that his departure from the APC was not motivated by personal grievances but by a belief that leadership should prioritize the welfare of ordinary citizens. He described the PRP as a party committed to social justice, accountability, quality education, affordable healthcare, rural development, and economic opportunity, values he believes are essential for addressing the nation's current challenges. Danmaliki criticized the ongoing economic difficulties facing millions of Nigerians, including widespread hunger, high unemployment rates, inadequate healthcare services, and limited access to quality education. He argued that government should serve to uplift and improve people's lives rather than exacerbate their hardships. In addition to highlighting the need for effective governance, Danmaliki pointed out that Bauchi State, despite its rich natural and human resources, has suffered due to poor leadership and the failure to implement policies that benefit the populace. He cited his extensive public service record as evidence of his dedication to improving community well-being and noted that his decision to join the PRP reflects his continued commitment to this goal. Danmaliki has pledged his support for Senator Shehu Buba, a prominent figure in the PRP, who will lead the party’s campaign for the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election. He praised Buba as a leader with courage, vision, and a strong sense of duty, expressing confidence in the senator’s ability to guide the state toward progress. Danmaliki also urged various segments of society, including youth, women, farmers, artisans, traders, professionals, traditional rulers, and religious leaders, to rally behind the PRP, emphasizing the importance of issue-based campaigning over divisive tactics. Looking forward, Danmaliki expressed hope that through honest leadership, responsible resource management, and governance centered on the people, both Bauchi State and Nigeria can work towards overcoming poverty and achieving long-term development.
