At least 27 people have died and 42 others have been injured following a drone strike by Russian forces on a warehouse in the village of Mila, located in the Bucha district of Kiev Oblast, Ukraine. The attack occurred late Friday evening around 20:10 local time near the Kyiv, Chop highway. A massive fire broke out at the site, followed by subsequent explosions of stored explosives. Authorities evacuated 381 people from the area, including 59 children, while seven injured individuals were transported to hospitals. The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety protocols surrounding the storage of explosive materials. The attack took place close to the M-06 Kyiv, Chop highway, which was fully closed in both directions due to the danger posed by the fire and the risk of further explosions. Nearby, in the neighboring village of Dmitrivka, an operational command center was set up to assist those who had been evacuated. The fire and explosions damaged approximately 50 residential buildings and one hospitality facility. Among the dead was Taras Didych, the head of the Dmitrivka community, who arrived at the scene early to provide aid before being caught in the disaster. The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has launched a preliminary investigation into potential criminal liability and negligence related to the conditions under which the explosives were stored at the facility. The probe aims to determine the legality of storing and handling explosive materials on the premises, verify whether necessary permits were obtained, and assess the actions of responsible individuals. President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that the drone strike caused the explosion in the ammunition storage facility and emphasized that such materials should not be placed near residential buildings. He called for strict accountability for all those involved in making such decisions. Prime Minister Serhiy Kuleba expressed strong condemnation, calling the incident a case of criminal negligence. He pointed to a similar tragic event in July in Vyshneve near Kyiv, where an explosion at a state-owned weapons storage facility near residential areas did not serve as a lesson. Kuleba stressed that repeating such mistakes five years into the invasion demands the harshest penalties. Regional military administration chief Timur Tkachenko confirmed the extent of the evacuation and the impact on the ground, reinforcing the gravity of the situation. According to data from the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia launched one anti-ship missile Oniks, one ballistic missile Iskander, and a total of 267 drones onto Ukrainian territory on Friday at 18:00. By Saturday morning, Ukrainian air defense systems had shot down or neutralized 233 drones. In addition to the attack in Bucha, other casualties were recorded: one man died in a drone strike on Kherson in southern Ukraine, while two people were injured in the Kyiv region of Svyatoshynsky. This incident follows the withdrawal of Russian forces from the Kyiv area at the end of March 2022, marking a significant shift in the conflict dynamics.
