Ta ukrep vključuje prekinitev prodaje in distribucije alkoholnih pijač v različnih komercialnih ustanovah, vključno z vinarnicami, trgovinami z živili, supermarketi in drugimi maloprodajnimi mesti, pooblaščenimi za prodajo alkohola.

Xochimilco will implement a dry law during the patron saint festivals, restricting the sale of alcoholic beverages throughout August. The municipal government has ordered the suspension of activities related to the sale or distribution of alcoholic drinks in connection with the festivities of several towns, including Santa Cruz Acalpixca, San Lorenzo Atemoaya, San Luis Tlaxialtemalco, and Barrios Caltongo, San Lorenzo, and La Asunción. The measure, announced in the Official Gazette on Monday, states that the restriction will apply from midnight on August 6, 2026, until 11:59 PM on August 25. It covers all commercial establishments operating as wine shops, grocery stores, supermarkets licensed for the sale of wines and spirits, self-service stores, department stores, and any other similar establishment where alcoholic beverages of any strength are sold, either permanently or temporarily, such as on public roads during the festivals. The restrictions will follow this schedule: On August 6, the ban will take effect in the town of Santa Cruz Acalpixca for its patron saint festival honoring the Divine Savior. From August 5 to 7, the restriction will apply in the neighborhood of Caltongo. From August 7 to 15, it will be enforced in San Lorenzo Atemoaya. From August 8 to 11, it will affect the neighborhood of San Lorenzo. From August 14 to 16, the ban will cover La Asunción. Finally, from August 15 to 25, it will be in place in San Luis Tlaxialtemalco. The decision was made to ensure public safety and prevent incidents associated with alcohol consumption during these festive periods. The municipal authorities have emphasized that the measure is part of broader efforts to maintain order and promote responsible behavior among residents and visitors. The affected areas include multiple neighborhoods within Xochimilco, each hosting their own patron saint celebrations. These festivals typically involve large gatherings, music, dance, and traditional foods, drawing both locals and tourists. The temporary prohibition aims to reduce the risk of alcohol-related accidents, particularly during late-night events and crowded spaces. Local businesses, especially those involved in selling alcoholic beverages, have been informed of the regulation. Some merchants expressed concern over the impact on their revenue, while others acknowledged the need for public safety measures. The city’s health and police departments have also been notified to monitor compliance and address any violations. The implementation of the dry law aligns with similar policies adopted in other parts of Mexico, where local governments often impose temporary bans on alcohol sales during major holidays or religious observances. This approach reflects a balance between cultural traditions and community well-being. As the dates draw closer, further announcements may clarify specific enforcement procedures and exceptions. The municipal government has not yet released detailed guidelines on how the rule will be applied in practice, leaving some ambiguity regarding which establishments will be fully restricted and which may operate under different conditions.
