This victory marked the Proteas' first major ICC title in 27 years. Markram, who was the leading run-scorer for South Africa in the T20 World Cup earlier this year with 286 runs, expressed his desire to help the team achieve greater collective success. Despite his personal achievements, he emphasized the importance of securing a major white-ball trophy, particularly with the ODI World Cup set to be hosted domestically for the first time in 24 years. Speaking at the Sandton Convention Centre, Markram acknowledged the team's accomplishments while reflecting on his own journey. “I did some incredible things as a team. That's ultimately what you work for,” Markram stated.
