The U.S. immigration agency ICE deported far-right political commentator Milo Yiannopoulos on Friday, following his arrest for overstaying his visa. He entered the country lawfully through New York on May 14, 2019, but remained after his authorized period ended. An immigration judge issued a final removal order on July 22 after Yiannopoulos did not attend a scheduled hearing. ICE agents apprehended Yiannopoulos at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in Louisiana on Thursday and placed him in custody. According to the Department of Homeland Security, the agency has reversed policies from the previous administration that allowed undocumented individuals to travel freely within the country. Officials stated that under current leadership, such individuals would no longer be permitted to travel domestically unless they depart voluntarily. Yiannopoulos had been present in New Orleans ahead of a concert by rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West. He had worked for Ye’s political and business ventures for nearly two years before ending their collaboration in 2024. Ye has faced criticism for making racist and anti-Semitic remarks, leading to a ban on entry into the United Kingdom. Yiannopoulos, who was banned from Twitter for years due to hate speech targeting comedian Leslie Jones, has long supported conservative causes and often criticized feminism, Islam, and immigrants. He has also endorsed ICE’s immigration enforcement actions in the past. In June 2025, he posted on social media advocating for ICE checkpoints at locations including supermarkets, gas stations, shopping centers, intersections, and government buildings, suggesting immediate deportation for anyone unable to prove legal status. Yiannopoulos was once a prominent figure in American far-right circles, spreading hostility toward women, Black people, elites, and liberals. His reputation suffered significantly in 2017 after an interview surfaced in which he defended sexual relationships between men and boys. As a result, he lost his book deal with Simon & Schuster, was removed from the speaker list of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), and was dropped by the right-leaning online publication Breitbart News. A representative from the Department of Homeland Security emphasized the administration’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws strictly. They claimed the current approach contrasts sharply with previous policies that were perceived as lenient toward undocumented individuals. Yiannopoulos was held in ICE custody until his deportation, during which time he remained in the United States.
