The incident occurred on Saturday, June 30, when Carreira took to his account, known as "Juan Doe", to criticize the CCP for its alleged role in the disaster. He wrote, "The Communist Party dressed as 'entrepreneur' kills," referencing the tragedy that struck Nepal, where the majority of victims were reportedly located. His comments came amid ongoing discussions about the collapse of a hydroelectric project near a glacier on the border with Nepal, which was being developed by a state-owned Chinese company. In response, the Chinese Embassy in Argentina issued a strongly worded statement late Monday, accusing Carreira of spreading malicious rumors driven by ideological bias. It stated that the official had defamed the CCP and damaged China’s international image.
