Two men have been arrested in Bengaluru after police discovered they were printing counterfeit ₹500 Indian rupee notes in a rented apartment. Authorities seized 338 fake notes along with a photocopier, a laptop, a car, and several mobile phones during raids conducted between July 4 and July 8. The total value of the confiscated items amounts to ₹3.29 lakh. The suspects, identified as Aravind K.C., 47, an unemployed man from Bengaluru, and P. Venkatsubramani, 41, a driver from Chennai, face charges related to counterfeiting and distributing fake currency. Both men reportedly have no prior criminal records. The arrests followed a tip-off received by the Kumbalagodu police on July 3, which indicated that a tenant in a Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) apartment was involved in circulating counterfeit currency. Acting on this information, authorities registered a case and initiated an investigation. On the same day, Aravind was arrested near Kenchenahalli Cross. During questioning, he allegedly confessed to producing counterfeit ₹500 notes and supplying them to an associate in Chennai for distribution. Aravind appeared before a local court on July 4 and was remanded into 10 days of police custody for further interrogation. Custodial interrogations revealed that he began printing counterfeit currency to generate quick income. Using this information, police teams located and arrested his alleged accomplice, P. Venkatsubramani, in Maruti Nagar near Chennai on July 7. Searches were carried out at both men’s residences in Bengaluru and Chennai during the period from July 4 to July 8. Both accused individuals were presented before the appropriate courts and have since been placed under judicial custody. The ongoing investigation aims to determine whether the counterfeit notes have already entered circulation and to uncover any additional individuals linked to the operation. Police are examining the seized equipment and digital devices to trace the origin of the counterfeit notes and identify potential buyers or distributors. The counterfeit operation appears to have been orchestrated through a rented property in Bengaluru, suggesting a level of organization and planning. The use of a photocopier and laptop indicates that the suspects employed modern technology to produce high-quality replicas of genuine currency.
