The city of Zagreb faces ongoing challenges in addressing its sports infrastructure, with the future of Dinamo's training camp remaining unresolved. Mayor Tomislav Tomašević recently responded to recent statements by Dinamo president Zvonimir Boban, revealing a major obstacle in the club’s plans. The issue centers around the Zagrebello site, which has been a long-standing point of contention between the city and the football club. According to Tomašević, the city and Dinamo continue discussions regarding a solution, but the key location, Zagrebello, is currently inaccessible due to legal disputes. He stated that four court cases related to the area are still active, preventing any progress. “Zagrebello is not under our control because legal proceedings are ongoing,” he explained. “We hope these will conclude soon so we can move forward with a resolution.” In parallel, the city is actively seeking alternative locations that could serve as temporary training sites for Dinamo. While efforts are underway to find a viable interim solution, the lack of access to Zagrebello complicates planning. Tomašević emphasized that the situation requires both immediate action and long-term strategy. Looking ahead, the mayor outlined a broader vision for the club’s future. The first major step involves completing the renovation of the stadium on Kranjčevićevoj ulica. Once this project is finished, Dinamo would need to relocate from Maksimir, allowing for the demolition of the existing stadium and the preparation of the new Maksimir site, a joint initiative between the city and the government. This project includes a planned section for football fields, though Tomašević noted that this alone would not meet all of Dinamo’s requirements. “Dinamo needs additional training grounds that are not located on Svetice, essential for a professional team competing in Europe,” he added. The current setup does not provide sufficient facilities to support the club’s ambitions on the international stage. Meanwhile, the design of the new Maksimir stadium is undergoing an international architectural competition aimed at defining its final form. However, even once the new facility is operational, the demand for more space remains unmet. Tomašević stressed that the club’s needs extend beyond just one venue. Both the city and Dinamo remain committed to finding a sustainable solution for the training camp. Despite the legal hurdles surrounding Zagrebello, officials continue to explore options, including potential partnerships or shared spaces with other local entities. The search for a permanent home for Dinamo’s training operations continues, with the hope that the legal issues will eventually be resolved, paving the way for a more stable and expanded infrastructure.
