Sheinbaum was asked about the publication by El Universal, which indicated that the FGR is looking into the organization of the dinner at the historic site. She clarified that, to her knowledge, the FGR had not initiated an investigation on its own but was analyzing a complaint filed by an employee of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). According to Sheinbaum, the complaint came from an INAH worker who submitted it to the FGR, and the agency is currently evaluating whether there are any issues with the case. She pointed out that El Universal did not accurately represent this situation, emphasizing that the FGR is not conducting an official investigation but rather examining the complaint. When questioned about the need to disclose all processes related to the event and the use of the property, Sheinbaum stated that the information had already been shared publicly. However, she added that more details could be provided if necessary. The controversy began after investigators from the INAH filed a complaint with the FGR on June 23, alleging that renting Chapultepec Castle for the FIFA event might have violated constitutional provisions and regulations protecting Mexico’s historical and cultural heritage. According to a response to an information request by El Universal, the INAH argued that the document confirming the payment of over one million pesos by FIFA for using the castle is part of an ongoing FGR inquiry. Therefore, releasing the document could interfere with due process. The document in question confirms that FIFA paid for the use of the castle for the event. This information was obtained through a formal request by El Universal, but the INAH withheld it citing the ongoing investigation. The issue has raised questions about transparency regarding how such high-profile events are organized and funded, particularly when they involve protected national landmarks. In addition to the FIFA-related controversy, Sheinbaum addressed another matter during her press conference. She mentioned that investigations by the FGR continue into the case of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, a notorious drug trafficker who received a life sentence in the United States. When asked whether the U.S. decision to allow Zambada to serve his sentence in a medical facility suggested he negotiated with American authorities, Sheinbaum deferred to the security cabinet for their opinion. She emphasized that the FGR is still looking into how Zambada ended up in the United States and what happened in Mexico leading to his extradition. She noted that the U.S. court ruling is part of the broader context being examined by Mexican authorities.
