The Renesansni Festival returns to Koprivnica this August, running from August 20th to 23rd, transforming the town into a vibrant Renaissance setting filled with knights, master artisans, court jesters, medieval musicians, and the aromas of dishes prepared according to centuries-old recipes. This year’s festival promises more than just a return to tradition, it introduces a new element, the Ljeto na Zrinskom event, which will coincide with the festival dates, offering visitors two distinct yet complementary experiences: an authentic journey through history within the town's historic ruins and a modern music and entertainment program set in the city park. This year’s August in Koprivnica brings additional reasons to visit. For the first time, the Ljeto na Zrinskom event will take place during the same weekend as the festival, allowing the town to offer both a historically immersive experience and a contemporary cultural program. The festival will bring together over 1,300 costumed participants from 13 European countries, who will recreate the late Middle Ages through tournaments, sword fights, horseback displays, demonstrations of forgotten crafts, alchemists, traveling merchants, and interactive activities suitable for all age groups. Throughout the four days of the festival, numerous attractions await visitors. Highlights include the ceremonial procession of knightly orders, equestrian tournaments, and a dramatic nighttime attack on the town featuring fire arrows, cannons, and swords. Fire performances, minstrel shows, medieval theater, and workshops introducing children and adults to ancient crafts such as calligraphy, pottery, archery, and alchemy will also be available. One of the festival’s greatest draws is its commitment to authenticity in food and drink. Across the entire festival site, there is no plastic, food and beverages are served exclusively in paper, wooden, and ceramic containers, aligning with the festival’s historical concept and sustainability efforts. Visitors can sample roasted beef, chestnut stew, game meat stews, crayfish cutlets, and many other historical specialties, paired with honey, beer brewed from local hops, and other drinks inspired by medieval traditions. The Renesansni Festival has become one of Croatia’s most recognizable events, successfully blending cultural heritage, history, gastronomy, and tourism. It has won the prestigious “Simply the Best” award from the Croatian Tourism Association for eight consecutive years, placing it among the country’s most awarded tourist events. While the Renesansni Festival remains true to its historical roots within the town’s ruins, the Ljeto na Zrinskom event expands its reach by extending its duration to match the festival’s weekend. From August 20th to 22nd, the city park will host the Bistro u Parku, a new music and entertainment zone offering carefully selected wine and beer selections. To enhance the atmosphere throughout the three days, popular DJ Krnya will provide the soundtrack, while evening programs will feature major concerts. On Friday, audiences can expect to hear Serbian singer Sergeja Ćetković, and on Saturday, the legendary band Prljavo Kazalište will add to the energy of the weekend.
