The German federal government has confirmed it lacks knowledge regarding far-right rock concerts held in support of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, despite repeated parliamentary inquiries. The Left Party raised concerns after discovering that musicians associated with the right-wing scene had performed at AfD events. One such performance took place recently in a corner bar in Heide, a town in Schleswig-Holstein, where Hannes Ostendorf, lead singer of the far-right band Kategorie C, gave a concert. The event was exposed by an anti-fascist group, which revealed the concert occurred on July 24. The venue's operators confirmed the performance on Instagram, though they claimed the music was neither right-leaning nor extremist, and stated that no right-wing attendees had shown up, despite Ostendorf’s known appeal to far-right audiences. According to a recent response from the federal government to a parliamentary inquiry by the Left Party, there were 20 concerts and 100 musical evenings related to far-right ideology between June 2025 and December 2025. However, the government did not provide specific details about these events, citing protection of third-party rights and the federal division of responsibilities. It also declined to comment on performances by artists using stage names such as "Yann Song King," "Estéban Cortez," and "Björn Banane," stating that such information could significantly affect state interests and that individuals might develop countermeasures against surveillance. These three performers actively seek public attention through social media. Yann Song King presents himself on his website as a "swirling song king and popular home poet from Dark Germany." Estéban Cortez and Björn Banane document their appearances at AfD events online. Björn Banane, whose real name is Björn Winter, also works for AfD officials. On July 27, he provoked controversy during a memorial event for the Christopher Street Day (CSD) in Potsdam by referring to mourners as "rainbow fascists." The activities of these musicians fall within the category of "delegitimization of the state," a term introduced by the Federal Office for Constitutional Protection in 2021 amid the protests of the "Querdenken" movement. Although this area was initially treated as a distinct category, it has since lost significance, possibly due to the decline in street protests. This suggests that current monitoring efforts may have diminished. Regarding AfD events featuring music, the federal government indicated that such gatherings would be included in the count of right-extremist music events if right-wing bands or solo artists participated. When asked specifically about 17 events involving AfD participation and musical performances between July and October 2025, the government admitted it had no relevant insights. Mandy Eißing, a member of the Left Party, emphasized the importance of the right to question as a powerful tool for opposition. She noted that while the government cites state interests to withhold information, the lack of transparency raises concerns about accountability and oversight.
