In response to claims made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding military progress near the Ukrainian city of Sumy, the head of Ukraine’s Center for Countering Disinformation, Andriy Kovalenko, has categorically denied these assertions. According to reports, Putin had stated during an interview that Russian forces were just over 10 kilometers away from Sumy and approximately 2.5 to 5 kilometers from Kupiansk. This claim was made in the context of a broader discussion about establishing a security buffer zone along the border following alleged Ukrainian incursions into the Kursk region and attacks on Russian border areas. However, Kovalenko refuted this statement, emphasizing that since spring 2025, Russian forces have not advanced anywhere near Sumy, maintaining a distance of more than 20 kilometers from the city. He further criticized Putin as a habitual liar whose statements are often based on misleading intelligence reports.

According to information shared by the "Kursk" military group, the situation along the Northern-Sloboda direction in Sumy Oblast remains tense but stable without any breakthroughs by the enemy. The group noted that while the adversary continues using infiltration tactics through the line of contact with small groups and even individual soldiers, there have been no mass assaults or significant tactical or strategic gains by Russian forces on this front. Additionally, the group dismissed the notion of a large-scale offensive against Sumy as inconsistent with the actual battlefield conditions.

Earlier on June 28, Putin had announced that Russian forces were just slightly more than 10 kilometers away from Sumy and between 2.5 and 5 kilometers from Kupiansk. His comments referenced a photograph of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy taken near the Kupiansk sign in December 2025. This announcement came amid ongoing hostilities in the area, where attacks on Sumy earlier that month resulted in injuries to 18 individuals, including two children. On the night of June 28, Russian forces attacked Sumy using guided aerial bombs and drones, causing additional casualties and damage.

Despite these claims, independent analyses suggest that the situation on the ground does not support Putin's assertions. For instance, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) highlighted that while Russian forces have achieved limited tactical successes in parts of Kostyantynivka, most of the city remains under Ukrainian control. The ISW also pointed out that Putin's meeting with high-ranking military officials likely coincided with efforts to influence Western media coverage around Independence Day in the United States. Furthermore, the ISW emphasized that the Russian summer offensive in 2026 has not yielded major operational breakthroughs, with Russian advances being slower compared to previous years.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy confirmed that attacks on Sumy caused four deaths and 27 injuries, including several children. He called upon European partners to exert pressure on Russia, particularly in its energy sector, naval fleet, and financial system. Zelenskyy reiterated the importance of strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities, especially its air defenses, to counter ongoing Russian aggression. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Russian forces continue to conduct airstrikes and drone attacks on multiple fronts, targeting cities such as Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and communities in Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Donetsk regions. These attacks underscore the persistent threat posed by Russian military operations despite conflicting narratives presented by both sides.

Ocena pristranskosti (Levo): Članek s pomočjo ukrajinskih vojaških virov jasno zavrača trditve ruskega voditelja in poudarja neuspeh ruskih napredkov, kar se ujema s proukrajinsko perspektivo.

Zakaj te ocene (Dejstva 90 · Objektivnost 85): The article directly refutes Putin’s claims about Sumy, citing sources like the Center for Countering Disinformation and military units. It provides specific distances and contextualizes the situation without emotional language, maintaining high factual accuracy and objectivity.

Putin razglasil zavzetje Kostjantinivke, Ukrajina in analitiki njegove trditve zavračajo

Russian President Vladimir Putin declared during a meeting with high-ranking military officials that Russian forces had captured the Ukrainian city of Kostyantynivka. However, military analysts dispute this claim, noting that while Russian troops have made limited tactical advances in parts of the city, most of it remains under Ukrainian control. Analysts suggest that such claims are part of an information campaign by Moscow to create the impression of rapid progress along the entire front. According to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces have only penetrated small areas of Kostyantynivka, with Ukrainian defenders still holding the majority of the city. The timing of Putin’s announcement coincides with efforts to influence Western media ahead of America’s Independence Day.

Ocena pristranskosti (Sredina): The article presents both Putin's claim and the counteranalysis from military experts without overtly favoring either side. It does not use emotionally charged language or selectively omit perspectives, maintaining a balanced tone.

Zakaj te ocene (Dejstva 85 · Objektivnost 70): The article reports on Putin’s claim about Kostyantinivka, but notes discrepancies with available data. It cites military analysts and the ISW, showing some alignment with the primary source. However, it uses emotionally charged language ('zavračajo') and frames the situation as part of a misinforma

Zakaj te ocene (Dejstva 80 · Objektivnost 75): This article closely mirrors the primary source document, quoting Putin directly and providing context about Kupiansk and Sumy. It maintains neutrality in presenting facts, though it does not challenge Putin’s claims directly, which slightly reduces objectivity.

Guerra Ucraina - Russia, le news di oggi. Attacco russo a Sumy: 4 morti e 27 feriti, anche bambini

Zakaj te ocene (Dejstva 70 · Objektivnost 65): This article presents conflicting information, citing Zelenskyy and the ISW. It appears to mix real events with disputed claims, and includes a biased narrative suggesting Putin’s claims lack evidence. Language leans toward sensationalism, reducing objectivity.
