Sodba nad mladimi nacisti: iz rjave otroške sobe v zapor

Germany’s Hamburg Higher Regional Court has sentenced seven members and one supporter of the far-right extremist group “Letzte Verteidigungswelle” (Last Wave of Defense) to youth prison terms ranging from one and a half to five years. The verdict, delivered on Wednesday, marks the culmination of a trial involving eight individuals, all under the age of 21 at the time of the alleged crimes. The court ruled them guilty of membership or support in a terrorist organization, as well as attempted murder, arson, and dangerous bodily harm. One of the defendants received a suspended sentence of one and a half years due to his age. The group, which described itself as a movement dedicated to cleansing Germany of what it called “filth,” was found to have plotted attacks against migrants and political opponents. According to the court, its members aimed to bring about the collapse of Germany’s political system through violence. Their ideology was rooted in extreme racism and anti-immigrant sentiment, as evidenced by their slogan: “We are the wave that washes the filth out of our country.” The group used symbols associated with Nazi history, including the SS death’s head emblem, as part of its branding. One of the key incidents attributed to the group occurred in October 2024, when they set fire to a community cultural center in Altdöbern, a small town in Brandenburg with a population of just over 2,300. The attack, which resulted in extensive property damage, was initially believed to target a left-wing activist gathering. However, investigators later determined that the building was incorrectly identified as such. The mayor of Altdöbern, Peter Winzer, expressed shock at the destruction, calling the attack an “absolute catastrophe” because the center served as a vital hub for local culture and community activities. In January 2025, two of the accused attempted to ignite a fire at a refugee accommodation in Schmölln, Thuringia. They also spray-painted swastikas and slogans such as “foreigners out” on the exterior of the facility. Further evidence suggests that the group had plans to carry out another arson attack on an asylum seeker shelter in Senftenberg, Brandenburg. These actions, according to prosecutors, were part of a broader strategy to intimidate and destabilize communities perceived as politically or culturally opposing their views. The case has drawn comparisons to the “baseball bat years,” a term referring to the violent right-wing riots that plagued East Germany shortly after reunification. Brandenburg’s Interior Minister Jan Redmann noted that the rapid radicalization of young people, many of whom have family ties to past right-wing extremists, is a growing concern. He emphasized the continuity between current extremism and historical patterns, underscoring the need for vigilance. Federal prosecutors launched a nationwide operation in late 2025, conducting raids in multiple states, including Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, and even in the west of Germany. This effort led to the arrest of additional suspects, with authorities estimating the group’s membership to be in the mid-double-digit range across Germany. Two more youths were detained in Thuringia in early 2025, further expanding the scope of the investigation. The trial took place in Hamburg because the state’s security service jurisdiction covers cases from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Some of the main defendants, including Jason R. and Benjamin H., both aged 19 and 16 respectively, hail from this region. Due to the age of the accused, the proceedings were held behind closed doors, with legal arguments presented without public attendance. The trial lasted 28 days before the verdict was announced. The group, which formed in April 2024, operated through WhatsApp groups and maintained a network of approximately 200 participants. Its members were required to demonstrate involvement in criminal acts, often using video footage as proof. The group promoted a radical conspiracy theory known as the “great exchange,” claiming that foreign immigrants were systematically replacing native populations, a narrative shared by other far-right movements like the Identitarian Movement and certain politicians within the AfD party. The sentencing reflects the severity of the threat posed by these young extremists, highlighting the increasing presence of far-right ideologies among Germany’s youth. As the country continues to grapple with rising extremism, the case underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement and civil society in countering such movements.

Sodišče proti Zadnjemu valu obrambe: mladim nacistom do pet let zapora

Članek poroča o obsodbi osmih mladih članov skrajno desne teroristične skupine "Letzte Verteidigungswelle" v Hamburgu v Nemčiji. Skupina je načrtovala smrtonosne napade proti beguncem in levičarjem, vključno z požigom in bombnimi napadi.
