By stepping down from Joburg’s roster, he avoids a scenario where he would be coaching a team whose rivals include franchises linked to his current employer. An internal source from Mumbai Indians stated earlier that the franchise had no objections to Pollard playing elsewhere. They noted that the decision rested entirely with him, as they had issued no specific instructions regarding his participation in other leagues. Chennai Super Kings chief executive Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the withdrawal. He stated that Pollard conveyed he would not be able to play for Joburg Super Kings. After retiring from the league following the 2022 season, he transitioned immediately into the role of batting coach. Pollard outlined his immediate priorities for the squad.
