Known for its unique geometric layout, the town’s history dates back to the late 16th century, when the Venetian Republic sought to build a powerful defensive structure along its eastern border. Today, visitors can explore the remnants of this historical site while enjoying modern amenities such as shopping centers and tourist facilities. The journey to Palmanova takes around two hours from Ljubljana via Nova Gorica, offering a scenic route through the northern part of Italy. Upon arrival, travelers will find a large parking lot on Via Scamozzi, just a few minutes' walk from the town's historic core. Unlike many tourist destinations in northern Italy, parking fees were waived during our visit, making it a convenient option for visitors. The town’s origins trace back to October 7, 1593, when construction began under the patronage of Saint Justin. To encourage settlement, the Venetian authorities offered incentives such as free land, tax exemptions, and even pardons for prisoners willing to start anew in the town.
