Residents are expressing frustration over advertisements that cover windows on city buses, prompting the Ljubljana Public Transport Company (LPP) to acknowledge their concerns and commit to reducing ad coverage. According to reports from local media, some bus windows are entirely obscured by ads, with up to 60 percent of glass surfaces covered. In response to public complaints, LPP has announced plans to decrease the number of advertisements on its buses, aiming to improve visibility for passengers. The issue has been raised by several users of LPP’s services for years, who have pointed out that excessive advertising obstructs views and hampers navigation, particularly for tourists unfamiliar with the city. One user described the situation as a “disaster” for visitors, noting that they might need to rely on GPS apps to find the correct stop. Another remarked that during heavy rain, identifying the right station becomes almost impossible due to the lack of visibility through the windows. In a recent statement, Matija Jeras, head of passenger transport services at LPP, confirmed that the company has taken the feedback into account. He stated that while they had already reduced the extent of ad coverage in recent years, further adjustments would be made. “We hear you and agree,” he said, adding that upcoming buses will feature ads covering no more than 20 to 40 percent of the glass area. This change applies specifically to the front half of the buses, with the rear portion allowing up to 30 percent coverage. Jeras explained that non-glass areas of the buses can still be fully covered by advertisements, though this will remain unchanged. He emphasized that the new policy aims to ensure better visibility for passengers, stating, “Fewer stickers mean a better connection with the surroundings.” Additionally, he noted that new electric and hydrogen-powered buses will not have any advertising stickers at all. The decision comes after a growing public outcry, with many residents calling for improved transparency and accessibility. Social media posts highlighted the inconvenience caused by the dense advertising, especially during adverse weather conditions. Some users even compared the situation unfavorably to practices in other European cities, where such extensive window coverage is less common. LPP’s announcement includes specific measures aimed at balancing commercial interests with passenger comfort. The reduction in ad coverage is part of a broader effort to enhance the overall travel experience. By limiting the visual obstruction, the company hopes to make it easier for passengers to navigate the city, identify stops, and stay informed about their surroundings. Looking ahead, LPP plans to implement these changes gradually, ensuring that the transition is smooth for both operators and passengers. The introduction of new vehicles without advertising stickers signals a shift toward more transparent public transportation design. As the company continues to adapt to public demands, the focus remains on improving service quality and passenger satisfaction.
