Med mladimi še vedno obstaja veliko napačnih predstav o učinkih teh pijač. Ključno je, da se razumemo, kako lahko te zmotne prepričanja vplivajo na zdravje in posledice, ki lahko nastanejo zaradi nespretnega uporabe teh izdelkov.

V skupini najpogostejših zmot med mladimi športniki je prepričanje, da energijske pijače sodijo med športne napitke. NIJZ opozarja, da takšni izdelki še vedno vsebujejo velike količine kofeina in drugih stimulativnih snovi. Tako se razvijajo zmotne predstave, da bi bilo bolje izbrati brezsladkorje pijače, kar v resnici ne zmanjšuje tveganja za zdravje.

Številni mladostniki po energijskih pijačah posežejo med učenjem, saj jim za krajši čas povečajo občutek budnosti. Vendar strokovnjaki opozarjajo, da je ta učinek le začasen. Po kratkotrajnem izboljšanju budnosti pogosto sledijo padec energije, slabša zbranost in utrujenost. NIJZ poudarja, da pomanjkanja spanja ni mogoče nadomestiti s kofeinom. Čeprav je kofein lahko začasen pomočnik za budnost, ne more nadomestiti dolgoročne potrebe po dovršenem spanju.

Mladi so na kofein bolj občutljivi

Na NIJZ opozarjajo tudi na zmotno prepričanje, da mlad organizem energijske pijače brez težav prenese. Otroci in mladostniki so na kofein občutljivejši kot odrasli, zato so lahko neželeni učinki izrazitejši. Posebej tvegano je tudi sočasno uživanje energijskih pijač in alkohola, saj lahko takšna kombinacija poveča tveganje za zdravstvene zaplete. Pretirano uživanje energijskih pijač lahko vpliva na kakovost spanja, razpoloženje, srčni utrip, krvni tlak in sposobnost zbranosti.

Prava energija ne prihaja iz pločevinke

NIJZ poudarja, da je odgovor na vprašanje, kaj mladim dejansko zagotavlja energijo, precej manj spektakularen od marketinških obljub proizvajalcev energijskih pijač. Dovolj spanja, redna telesna dejavnost, ustrezna hidracija, uravnotežena prehrana ter dobra razmerje med obremenitvami in počitkom ostajajo ključni temelji dobrega počutja in energije. Na ta sporočila opozarjajo tudi v kampanji *Izberi svojo energijo – do dobre energije brez energijskih pijač*, katere osrednje sporočilo se glasi: *»Prava energija ne prihaja iz pločevinke.«*

Ta kampanja nasilno opozarja na to, da je moč energije v življenju več kot samo fizikalna ali mentalna vzburjenost, temveč v dovršenem počutju, stabilnem razpoloženju in zdravem življenjskem slogu.
