V vesolje odpeljali novi vesoljski teleskop

"Rimski vesoljski teleskop Nancy Grace" je uspešno začel in bo zdaj začel svoje znanstvene naloge. Je sodobnejši in zmogljivejši naslednik Hubblejevega teleskopa in prinaša inovativne tehnologije, vključno z novim instrumentom za iskanje izvenzemeljskih planetov. Del tehnike izvira iz Nemčije. Teleskop je bil končan osem mesecev pred načrtovanim datumom izdelave, pred datumom začetka.

The United States space agency NASA has launched its new space telescope, the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope, into orbit. The mission marks a major step forward in astronomical research, with the telescope set to study dark matter distribution, measure the universe's expansion rate, and detect exoplanets around distant stars. It launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, aboard a Falcon Heavy rocket, marking the beginning of its journey to deep space. The Roman Space Telescope was completed eight months ahead of schedule, allowing for an earlier launch date than originally planned. This early completion highlights the efficiency of the project team and underscores the importance of the mission. The telescope is named after Nancy Grace Roman, the first head of NASA’s astronomy division and a key figure behind the “Great Observatories” program. She is often referred to as the “mother of the Hubble Space Telescope,” having played a pivotal role in its planning and development. One of the unique aspects of the Roman Space Telescope is its mirror, which was originally manufactured for a U.S. spy satellite that was never completed. After the project was canceled, the mirror was later transferred to the Roman team. Measuring 2.4 meters in diameter, it matches the size of the Hubble Space Telescope’s mirror. This large aperture allows the Roman telescope to capture images over a wide field of view, comparable in scale to the full moon. This capability enables it to survey vast areas of the sky more efficiently than previous telescopes. Unlike the Hubble and James Webb telescopes, which focus on small, specific regions of the sky to peer deep into the cosmos, the Roman telescope offers a broader perspective. It can quickly adjust its orientation to observe unexpected celestial events such as supernova explosions within minutes, whereas the Hubble would take hours to realign. This rapid response makes the Roman telescope particularly valuable for capturing transient phenomena. On board the Roman telescope are two scientific instruments. The Wide-Field Instrument will map galaxies in the early universe and determine the distribution of dark matter, which plays a crucial role in preventing galaxies from flying apart due to their high rotational speeds. Another instrument will monitor supernovae outside our Milky Way galaxy. The brightness of certain types of supernovae is consistent, making them useful tools for measuring distances between Earth and these cosmic events. The Roman Space Telescope represents a significant advancement in observational technology, combining powerful imaging capabilities with efficient data collection methods. Its ability to provide both broad surveys and detailed observations positions it as a vital asset in modern astrophysics. As the telescope begins its operations, scientists anticipate groundbreaking discoveries related to dark matter, cosmic expansion, and planetary systems beyond our solar system. The mission continues to unfold, offering new insights into the mysteries of the universe.
