Trump: Zelenski ni "dober človek za pogajanja"

Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has warned that while Germany is under threat from Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine, it is not defenseless. Speaking on a television program hosted by Maybrit Illner, Wadephul emphasized that Germany is well-prepared to defend itself and highlighted its military presence in the Baltic states. He noted that German soldiers stationed there are welcomed despite the historical context of World War II atrocities committed by German forces in the region. Wadephul described the situation in Russia as dire, stating that Moscow faces severe economic difficulties and loses approximately 40,000 soldiers per month due to injuries or death. He called for an end to the conflict, emphasizing the heavy human toll and urging efforts to bring the war to a close. Wadephul outlined Germany’s strategy, which includes supporting Ukraine, applying pressure on Russia, and preparing for potential negotiations. Security expert Peter Neumann cautioned against the illusion promoted by populist parties that ending support for Ukraine would lead to peace in Europe. He warned that such a scenario could result in a situation similar to the Syrian civil war, but on a larger scale and closer to European borders. Ralf Stegner, an SPD politician, added that these parties appear to favor peace but actually support Russian President Vladimir Putin. Mareike Möller, a journalist, pointed out that countries like Poland and the Baltic states have strengthened their social cohesion in response to the growing threat from Russia. She noted the positive reception of the German military presence in Lithuania, highlighting the strong public support for the German brigade stationed there. In separate developments, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for continuing attacks on Russian oil refineries, calling it a disgrace that drives up global energy prices. Trump expressed frustration with Zelenskyy’s lack of willingness to negotiate compared to Putin, suggesting that any agreement should exclude Zelenskyy. He claimed both leaders want an end to the war but found it more difficult to negotiate with Zelenskyy. Zelenskyy responded by withdrawing from Trump’s proposed “energy ceasefire” after being informed of the deal only after it was announced. He accused Trump of betraying him by arranging diesel supplies from Russia instead of imposing stronger sanctions on Moscow. Zelenskyy lamented the loss of a strong ally and highlighted the impact of delayed intelligence and limited internet access from Starlink, which hindered recent drone operations. Russia has continued its attacks on Ukraine, intensifying strikes during the day with drones. Zelenskyy described this as a targeted escalation following the easing of U.S. sanctions. The Ukraine relies heavily on support from its allies, particularly the United States, including intelligence sharing and satellite internet services from SpaceX.
