The publication, titled Manual Práctico para el Manejo de la Enfermedad Hemorroidal, was released following collaboration among 11 experts in proctology from across Latin America. It aims to standardize diagnostic procedures, treatment options, and prevention strategies for one of the most common anorectal conditions. The document outlines seven chapters detailing medical treatments, outpatient procedures, surgical alternatives, and management of frequent complications associated with hemorrhoids. According to the specialists, many patients delay seeking care due to embarrassment over symptoms related to the rectum and anus. This has led to delayed diagnoses and more severe cases requiring complex interventions. Dr. Carlos Urbina, director of Medical and Patient Affairs at the pharmaceutical company Servier, which supported the initiative, emphasized the importance of continuous medical education and knowledge exchange among professionals from different countries. He stated that the manual reinforces Servier’s commitment to supporting ongoing medical training through international collaboration, ultimately benefiting patient outcomes.
