V Istanbulu so začeli obnoviti zgodovinski muzej Aşiyan

Občina Istanbula je začela obnovitveni projekt za zgodovinski muzej Aşiyan, ki je bil nekoč rezidenca turškega pesnika Tevfika Fikreta v istanbulski okrožju Bebek.

Istanbul has begun restoring the historic Aşiyan Museum, once the home of renowned Turkish poet Tevfik Fikret in the Bebek district. The Istanbul Municipality announced the start of the restoration project, aiming to safeguard the architectural integrity of the building and honor Fikret's intellectual contributions. Mahir Polat, the municipality’s Deputy Secretary General, emphasized the cultural significance of the site during a statement posted on X. Polat described Aşiyan as more than a residence, highlighting its role as a refuge for Fikret amid the political turmoil of his time. He noted that the poet personally designed the structure, which served as both a sanctuary and a symbol of freedom. According to him, the building evolved beyond being merely a poet’s home, becoming a hub for generations who embraced free thought and consciousness, and marking the beginning of Turkish enlightenment. The restoration effort is based on preserving the original design elements of the building. The property, named after the Persian term for “bird’s nest,” was Fikret’s home until his death in 1915. In 1940, the local administration acquired the property from Fikret’s wife, Nazime. Five years later, the site was transformed into the Edebiyat-ı Cedide Museum, thanks to the efforts of then-Education Minister Hasan Âli Yücel. This marked the establishment of Turkey’s first literature museum. The museum showcases Fikret’s personal collection along with works from other notable literary figures. In 1961, Fikret’s remains were moved to the garden of the property, leading to the official renaming of the site as the Aşiyan Museum. The decision to restore the building reflects a broader commitment to preserving historical landmarks and cultural heritage in Istanbul. The restoration process involves meticulous attention to detail to ensure the authenticity of the structure is maintained. Officials have confirmed that the project will include structural repairs, conservation of interior spaces, and enhancements to accessibility while respecting the historical context of the site. The goal is to make the museum more welcoming to visitors while maintaining its status as a protected historical asset. Historians and cultural experts have welcomed the announcement, noting the importance of such projects in maintaining a connection to the past. They argue that the restoration of Aşiyan Museum contributes to the preservation of Turkey’s literary history and offers future generations a tangible link to the nation’s cultural evolution. The museum continues to serve as a vital educational resource, offering insights into the life and work of Tevfik Fikret and the broader literary landscape of early 20th-century Turkey.
