Indonezija s SRUK-om krepi zaupanje v svetovni trg ogljikovega dioksida

Indonesia has launched the Carbon Unit Registration System (SRUK), marking a major step forward in its commitment to building a transparent and reliable carbon market. The system was officially introduced on July 9 and is designed to record the entire lifecycle of carbon units generated from climate mitigation activities across all economic sectors. By implementing SRUK, Indonesia aims to bolster investor confidence and establish itself as a trusted hub for green investments. Environment Minister and Environmental Control Agency Head Muhammad Jumhur Hidayat highlighted the significance of SRUK during a press conference in Jakarta. He stated that the system enhances the credibility of Indonesia’s carbon market by offering accurate measurement of carbon emission reductions. According to Jumhur, SRUK enables the country to provide clear, traceable records of carbon credits, ensuring that ownership is well-defined, transactions are properly documented, and safeguards against double counting are in place. The SRUK operates as a national carbon registry, focusing on transparency, regulatory certainty, and market integrity. It functions as the central repository for all carbon unit-related activities, including project registration, issuance, transfer of ownership, trading, and retirement. This comprehensive approach allows for real-time tracking of carbon units and their intended uses whenever a transaction occurs on the Carbon Exchange. The system automatically updates ownership and status information, maintaining alignment between the exchange and the government’s registry. Jumhur emphasized that SRUK not only helps Indonesia achieve its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets but also sends a strong signal to the global community about the country’s dedication to sustainable development. He noted that Indonesia is prepared to play a dual role, as both a supplier of quality carbon mitigation opportunities and a reliable partner in developing a globally recognized carbon market. The minister expressed confidence that the system will significantly enhance investor trust in Indonesia’s green investment environment by improving governance and regulatory clarity. Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly Eddy Soeparno echoed these sentiments, highlighting the potential of Indonesia’s carbon economy. He pointed out that the carbon economy could generate up to US$21.3 billion for the nation by 2030. This potential, he explained, offers a crucial alternative funding source for decarbonization initiatives, freeing up public funds for other essential areas such as healthcare and social protection. Soeparno stressed that the development of a robust carbon market can create employment opportunities, attract foreign investment, and support local manufacturing industries. SRUK is built in accordance with international standards for carbon registries and leverages blockchain technology developed in partnership with IDX Carbon. This technological integration strengthens data integrity and ensures secure, tamper-proof records. The system serves as the single source of truth for Indonesia’s Carbon Economic Value (Nilai Ekonomi Karbon/NEK), which plays a vital role in assessing the financial value of carbon units. With SRUK now operational, Indonesia is positioned to become a more attractive destination for green investments. The system not only supports domestic climate goals but also contributes to the broader goal of fostering a credible, transparent, and high-integrity global carbon market. As the country continues to refine its carbon policies and expand its green economy, the success of SRUK will likely influence future developments in environmental finance and sustainability practices worldwide.
