The demonstrations have grown into a broader expression of discontent, challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration. Clashes between protesters and police intensified on Thursday, with officers using tear gas and batons to break up the gathering. This followed similar confrontations earlier in the week, including a large-scale demonstration on Monday that saw thousands march toward Parliament before being dispersed by law enforcement. Authorities responded by suspending Delhi Metro services at 16 stations in central New Delhi to restrict access to the protest area. In an attempt to address growing unrest, Modi made his first public statement on the issue on Thursday, announcing the establishment of fast-track courts to expedite cases related to examination paper leaks. He emphasized the importance of youth welfare, stating, “Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth!” Despite this move, protesters remained unconvinced, arguing that the government had not adequately addressed their core demands for accountability and structural reforms. Law student Daksh Bhargava, one of the vocal critics, expressed disappointment, saying, “Rather than providing solution which is convenient for him, he should work toward a solution which is convenient for the nation and set an example.” The protesters continue to demand the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, whom they accuse of failing to ensure transparency and fairness in the examination process.
