The Indonesian government has activated a network of over 27,000 Warung Pangan partners to stabilize food prices, particularly within traditional markets. Deputy Coordinating Minister for Food Hanif Faisol Nurofiq highlighted the initiative during the launch of the ID FOOD Warung Pangan app at Tebet Timur Market in Jakarta. He described the program as a strategic move to leverage existing trade infrastructure across the country. The Warung Pangan platform was developed by PT Perusahaan Perdagangan Indonesia (PPI) in partnership with state-owned food clusters and supplier networks. ID FOOD President Director Ghimoyo confirmed that reinforcing the Warung Pangan network aligns with the company’s mission to maintain price stability, especially concerning non-subsidized goods. He outlined plans to enhance cooperation with vendors in traditional markets to guarantee the distribution of food products at competitive rates. Partners in the Warung Pangan system will be supplied at fixed wholesale prices, with an obligation to sell them to the public at the highest retail price (HET). This approach is intended to sustain food availability while directly benefiting communities through more predictable pricing structures. The expansion of the Warung Pangan initiative comes amid broader efforts by the Indonesian government to manage food inflation effectively.
