He expressed gratitude for his family, particularly his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, and their twin children, who are nine years old. The couple married in Venice in 2014. He noted that his current lifestyle involves many responsibilities beyond acting, especially related to caring for his children. The actor, known for directing several films, explained that he has stepped away from behind the camera due to his family commitments. “I used to make three movies a year, which I can’t manage anymore,” he said. “There are too many other things in my life to take care of, especially other people.” This shift has led him to focus less on filmmaking and more on family life. He added that the reason he isn’t currently directing films is because of his two young children. “If I act in a film, it takes three months, and I can go back and forth. But if I direct, I’m gone for a whole year, and there’s no chance to return.” Clooney also addressed the political climate in the United States, calling it a “kakistocracy”, a term he described as a country ruled by the least qualified individuals. He referenced the turbulent events of 1968, including widespread civil unrest, the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy, and the violent protests that surrounded the U.S. Capitol. “Every city in the United States was burning,” he recalled. “There was a lot of violence. The Capitol was surrounded by tanks. We’ve had difficult times before, but this is one of them.” He expressed hope that the upcoming midterm elections in November could restore balance, and he believes the country will eventually return to a state of normalcy by 2028. “We’ll get through this,” he said confidently. “And in 2028, we should be back to some kind of normality.” Clooney’s remarks underscored both his personal reflections on aging and his concerns about the direction of American politics. While he acknowledged the challenges of growing older, he remained optimistic about the future, emphasizing the importance of democratic processes and the resilience of society.
