According to a spokesperson for the Police Department of Maribor, the incident did not result in any structural damage, and there was no evidence pointing to an external cause. In addition to the waste dump fire, another incident involving fallen trees and exposed roofs took place earlier in the week. On Wednesday, July 19, 2026, heavy rain and strong winds caused damage in the area of Poljane, Hotovlje, and Predmosta. Firefighters from the Prostovoljno gasilsko društvo (PGD) Poljane were called to assist with the aftermath. Poveljnik PGD Poljane, Matija Božnar, stated that the first call came shortly after 8 pm. The situation involved several incidents, including the exposure of rooftops and the collapse of trees. In one instance, a person became trapped under a fallen tree and was successfully rescued. Over the course of the evening, 27 firefighters from PGD Poljane were dispatched to handle eight separate calls. Six of these interventions focused on covering exposed rooftops, while two dealt with the removal of fallen trees. The team remained on-site until midnight, managing most cases effectively, though one roof repair was postponed to the following day due to safety concerns during nighttime conditions. Both incidents reflect the challenges faced by emergency services in dealing with weather-related hazards and industrial sites. While the waste dump fire was contained without major consequences, the storm-related issues highlighted the need for rapid response and coordination among different firefighting units.
