Hines explained that these thunderstorms existed within a broader rain system that had persisted over much of the state since Monday. Even without the convective activity, the broad rain band ensured significant precipitation for most of the southeast. When thunderstorms embedded themselves in this band, rainfall rates increased sharply and rapidly. Areas outside the direct storm track still accumulated up to 30 millimeters on Thursday. Infrastructure disruptions followed the heavy rains. Energix recorded four power outages across the southeast at 9:15 am, leaving more than 1,700 homes without electricity. By 11 am, four additional outages occurred, though many previously affected households had regained service. The Department of Transport and Main Roads reported that standing water forced lane closures on the Gympie Arterial Road in northern Brisbane. Other routes, including Vulture Street in South Brisbane, were shut down during the morning. Educational institutions also suspended operations. Morayfield State High School and the nearby Minimbah State School closed for the day. Although the system did not threaten widespread high winds, Hines warned of isolated swirling gusts capable of blowing in unpredictable directions. Wet conditions are expected to persist until Monday afternoon. Temperatures will rise slightly over the weekend as the thick cloud cover and rain band begin to dissipate. While showers remain in the forecast, longer periods of sunshine become more likely. However, Hines stated that temperatures will stay three to six degrees below the October average of 28 degrees until the larger rain band lifts entirely. The combination of saturated ground and continued moisture creates ongoing risks for local waterways. Norman Creek and Kedron Brook showed signs of swelling and bank overflow during the peak rainfall periods. Commuters navigated flooded streets in the central business district during the morning rush hour. The slow movement of the storm cell maximized the duration of exposure for vulnerable infrastructure and residential properties in the affected corridors.
