Nepravi poslanci vs. Nepravi vlada : verbalna izmenjava udarcev v zvezi s predlogom za nezaupanje FPÖ proti koaliciji

A motion of no confidence brought by Austria's Freedom Party (FPÖ) against the government failed to secure the necessary majority in the National Council on Thursday afternoon. Only the FPÖ itself supported the motion, which sparked a heated debate. Criticism of the government came not just from the FPÖ but also from the Greens. FPÖ faction leader Herbert Kickl justified the motion, stating, “It’s over, clear the field, leave us alone.” He described the current three-party coalition government as the “most expensive, bloated, incapable, and unpopular government of all time.” Kickl argued that the government had failed to fulfill its mandate and accused it of internal discord and mutual obstruction. He called for new elections, placing sole blame on the Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) for the failure of blue-black negotiations. The motion, titled a “urgent question,” consisted solely of the query: “Is this federal government still capable of handling its affairs?” For Kickl, the answer was unequivocally “no.” In response, ÖVP State Secretary Alexander Pröll, representing Chancellor Christian Stocker on the sparsely populated government benches, dismissed the FPÖ criticism as “polemic” and “symbolic politics.” He highlighted achievements made by the government in the past 18 months, including two double budgets, reductions in labor-related costs, active pensions, industrial electricity, accelerated approval processes, drought relief, agricultural diesel, a ban on headscarves in schools, reforms to the electricity market, and a halt to family reunification. These were described as “tough compromises.” FPÖ General Secretary Michael Schnedlitz mocked the low turnout of government members, saying, “This isn’t even the last resort.” He also criticized the Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) for having more leaders than voters. The coalition parties united in their criticism of the FPÖ, with VP faction leader Ernst Gödl calling it a waste of time to have more government members present during such a “urgent question.” He claimed the FPÖ consistently votes against everything and has no interest in solutions, adding that noise is not an argument and incitement is not a solution. SPÖ faction leader Philip Kucher focused on the FPÖ’s previous failures in government and ridiculed Kickl’s past attempt to cling to the seat of the interior minister. He stated, “You have repeatedly proven that you can't do it.” NEOS faction leader Yannick Shetty labeled Kickl “the laziest member of the House.” His comments aligned with Kucher’s criticisms, asserting that every crisis faced by the FPÖ in government originated internally. Green deputy faction leader Sigrid Maurer criticized the FPÖ for attempting to fuel distrust in the democratic system. However, she did not absolve the coalition government of its timid policies.
