In a major blow to international drug trafficking networks, Colombian authorities have arrested Hermes Julián García Pérez, known as alias "Hermes," in Medellín. The arrest took place in the corregimiento of San Antonio de Pereira, within the municipality of Rionegro, Antioquia. García Pérez was captured while walking his dog during a routine patrol by intelligence agents of the National Police. The operation was conducted in close coordination with Europol and Ameripol, following an extradition order issued by the judicial authorities of Luxembourg. The 46-year-old suspect is wanted in Europe for charges related to drug trafficking, possession, and sale of narcotics. Preliminary investigations indicate he led a sophisticated network responsible for sending massive shipments of cocaine chloride from Colombia to Europe. The route used by the organization began at the maritime port of Cartagena and ended at the strategic port of Antwerp in Belgium, serving as the main entry point into Europe. According to estimates, the structure under his command managed to send approximately two tons of cocaine monthly, generating illicit revenues estimated at around 578 billion Colombian pesos. The arrest marks a significant step in international judicial cooperation against organized crime. According to official reports, alias "Hermes" becomes the first Colombian citizen to be judicialized for drug-related crimes in Luxembourg through a formal request for extradition. According to the case file, this individual directly answered to alias "Gárgola," the maximum leader of the network, overseeing the administration of strategic sales points. One of the most concerning findings for investigators is the operational method of "Los Conejos," whose center of collection and commercialization was located near the Bicentennial Park. To boost their illegal business, the gang systematically used children, girls, and adolescents as sellers or lookouts. This illegal dynamic allowed them to generate criminal revenues close to 420 million pesos monthly. Those implicated in this network must face justice for crimes such as drug trafficking, manufacturing or carrying narcotics, supplying minors, using minors for committing crimes, and conspiracy to commit crimes. With this operational deployment, local authorities and public forces aim to return to Medellín families the free enjoyment of urban parks and dismantle the finances of local mafia groups.
