Slovenian athlete Kristjan Ceh finished second in the discus throw at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzow, Poland, behind Lithuanian competitor Mykolas Alekna. Alekna's winning distance was 72.58 meters, while Ceh achieved his best throw of 68.93 meters. The competition took place on August 23, 2026, at 18:50 local time. Ceh, who recently defended his European champion title with an outstanding throw of 72.51 meters, did not perform as strongly this time around. His performance marked one of the last major events of the season in the Diamond League series. Alekna secured victory in the fifth series, surpassing Ceh by several centimeters and becoming the sole athlete at the meeting to exceed the 70-meter mark, achieving this feat three times during the competition. Ceh’s longest throw came in the third series, and he managed to surpass the 68-meter threshold even in his final two attempts. The bronze medal went to Swedish athlete Daniel Stahl, who recorded a distance of 68.25 meters. In addition to Ceh, another Slovenian athlete, Zan Rudolf, participated in the event, competing in the 1500 meters race. American athlete Ethan Strand unexpectedly won the race with a time of 3:30.77, finishing ahead of Norwegian runner Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who placed fourth in a close finish. The meeting saw several standout performances across different disciplines. On the track, Ethiopian athlete Tsige Duguma set a new season best with a time of 3:55.06 in the 1500 meters, narrowly beating Australian Jessica Hull. In the 400 meters hurdles, Brazilian athlete Alison dos Santos edged out Norwegian Karsten Warholm with a time of 46.43, improving upon the previous season-best he had set in July in Sao Paulo by just five hundredths of a second. Swedish high jump star Armand Duplantis delivered a remarkable performance in the pole vault, clearing 6.2 meters. He secured the win with a successful attempt at 6.1 meters, overtaking Norwegian Sondre Guttormsen and Greek Emanuel Karalis in the process. Although Duplantis attempted the world record height of 6.32 meters once, he failed to clear the bar and concluded his participation. Other notable achievements included Botswana’s Busang Collen Kebinatshipi, who clocked 43.59 seconds in the 400 meters, setting a meet record. Jamaican sprinter Oblique Seville claimed the fastest time in the 100 meters with 9.83 seconds, while Dominican athlete Marileidy Paulino ran under 49 seconds in the 400 meters with a time of 48.87. Ethiopian athlete Gemechu Godana set a new meet record in the 3000 meters steeplechase with a time of 8:02.74, narrowly eclipsing Moroccan Soufiane El Bakkali, who had previously held the fastest time of the year. In the women’s triple jump, Saly Sarr broke the national record by jumping 15.08 meters, the only athlete to surpass the 15-meter mark. Ukrainian jumper Jaroslava Mahuchikh cleared exactly 200 centimeters in the high jump, showcasing her precision and skill. Ceh's performance in Chorzow highlighted the competitive nature of the Diamond League, which continues to attract top athletes from around the globe. His second-place finish, though not matching his recent European championship success, still demonstrated his capability on the international stage.
