The 2027 edition was originally scheduled to run from February 3 to 21. Soulsby noted that while the council could not assume the company's debts, it intended to work with local promoters and venues to organise an interim festival, paving the way for a long-term solution. It is estimated that over £100,000 in unpaid fees remains outstanding, affecting numerous comedians, promoters, and venues. Despite this, Equity has managed to secure payments for some of the unpaid comedians, according to a spokesperson named Michael Day.
