As of late August, more than 120 petitions had already been filed with the CEC, nearly double the total number received during the previous election campaign. With nearly two months remaining until the polls open, the volume of such petitions is expected to rise further. To manage the scale of the upcoming election, the CEC is processing a record 195,000 applications for individuals wishing to serve as poll workers. Of these, approximately 35,000 will be selected to monitor the election and supervise the counting of ballots at individual polling stations. Livne, who has served as the CEC’s legal adviser for 13 years, took on the role of acting director general following the resignation of longtime director general Orly Adas.
