Dr. Crokes je osvojil 15. Kerry SFC naslov, potem ko je zadel gol proti Kenmare Shamrocks.

Dr Crokes claimed their 15th Kerry Senior Football Championship title on Sunday, defeating Kenmare Shamrocks by 1-24 to 2-14 at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney. The Killarney club secured the victory following a decisive scoring surge in the final stages of the match, overturning a deficit that had persisted for the majority of the contest. This triumph allows Dr Crokes to move two titles clear at the top of the historical roll of honour and marks the recovery of a trophy they previously held two years ago. For veteran players Brian Looney and Fionn Fitzgerald, the result delivered a remarkable ninth county championship medal each. The final presented a dramatic narrative of resilience against early dominance. Kenmare Shamrocks, making their appearance in a county final for the first time, established control quickly under a winter sun with a stiff wind advantage. David Ciuciu punched home a goal in the sixth minute, helping the underdogs build a 1-3 to nil lead within seven minutes. Although Dr Crokes eventually found the scoresheet through Alex Hennigan, they trailed 1-8 to 0-7 at the interval. The visitors had managed to stay competitive, leading by two points with ten minutes remaining in the second half before the momentum shifted abruptly. The turning point arrived between the 52nd and 55th minutes. Tony Brosnan, David Shaw, and Tom Doyle raised orange flags in rapid succession. When Cian McMahon followed with a white flag, the Killarney club erased a two-point deficit to establish a seven-point lead. This sequence of nine unanswered points in a four-minute span proved insurmountable for the visitors. Despite a late exchange of pointed frees involving Sean O’Shea and Brosnan, Dr Crokes maintained their grip on the outcome. Kenmare Shamrocks displayed considerable quality throughout the encounter, particularly through their star performer Sean O’Shea. The midfielder recorded nine points, including a two-point free, yet his efforts could not halt the late offensive pressure from the champions. Other contributors for the visitors included David Ciuciu and Kevin O’Sullivan, who both scored goals. Jack O’Sullivan was sent off late in the game after receiving a second yellow card, further diminishing the Shamrocks' capacity to respond. The second half saw initial exchanges before the decisive run. Dr Crokes opened the second period with a 32nd-minute goal from Mark O’Shea. However, Kenmare responded within 30 seconds when Kevin O’Sullivan applied the final touch to restore a four-point lead. By the 42nd minute, Dr Crokes had equalized the score at 1-12 to 2-9. The Shamrocks briefly extended their lead to three points via O’Shea and Donal O’Sullivan, but the subsequent scoring blitz sealed the result. The match concluded with celebrations for Dr Crokes, whose captain Tony Brosnan lifted the Bishop Moynihan Cup. The squad featured contributions from multiple scorers, including Cillian Fitzgerald, Charlie Keating, and David Shaw, who finished with three points and three assists. Substitutions in the final twenty minutes brought fresh legs onto the field, with Adam Byrne, Neil O’Shea, Michael Potts, Billy Courtney, and Mark O’Carroll replacing teammates. Pre-match commentary highlighted the structural complexities of the Kerry football calendar. Mickey Ned O’Sullivan, a former Kenmare District winner and 1975 Kerry captain, expressed concerns regarding the dual championship system. He argued that the current format creates difficulties for players, citing potential burnout risks for individuals like Sean O’Shea. O’Sullivan suggested simplifying the structure to a single senior club championship, noting that the existing schedule offers little protection against serious injuries. He recalled his own history with the sport, including a severe concussion suffered during the 1975 All-Ireland final against Dublin, which prevented him from lifting the Sam Maguire Cup despite his team’s victory. The upcoming season holds specific implications for Kenmare Shamrocks. A victory would have positioned Sean O’Shea as the likely candidate for the Kerry provincial captaincy for 2027. O’Shea served as the on-field leader when Kerry defeated Galway in the 2022 All-Ireland final, acting as deputy to Joe O’Connor. With the loss, that trajectory is altered, though the club retains a core of young talent. Half the team members are under 21, according to O’Sullivan, suggesting a foundation for future competitiveness despite the immediate disappointment of the final defeat. The referee for the final was Sean Joy. The attendance at Fitzgerald Stadium witnessed a contest defined by the contrast between Kenmare’s early tactical discipline and Dr Crokes’ late physical and technical superiority. The result cements Dr Crokes' status as the dominant force in county football, extending their record significantly beyond previous benchmarks. The visitors left the pitch with the consolation of a historic performance, having challenged the reigning powers for nearly seventy minutes before succumbing to the inevitable scoring power of their opponents.
