Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund and investment management agency, Danantara, does not possess voting rights within the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK), according to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. The minister made this clarification after Danantara participated in its inaugural KSSK meeting, held in Jakarta. Purbaya stressed that the authority to vote and make binding decisions rests solely with the four official KSSK members: the Finance Ministry, Bank Indonesia (BI), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and the Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). During his remarks to journalists, Purbaya outlined the rationale behind allowing Danantara to attend the meeting. He described the agency’s involvement as providing essential insights into the real economy, helping shape more effective national economic strategies. “Danantara brings a vital corporate perspective from an entity managing substantial commercial assets,” he said. This perspective, he argued, complements the data-driven approach typically employed by regulatory bodies, offering a more grounded understanding of current business conditions. Despite the absence of formal voting power, Purbaya assured stakeholders that Danantara’s contributions would still influence the formulation of financial policy. “Their input is welcome to enrich the information considered when the heads of KSSK, BI, OJK, and LPS make decisions,” he said. This assurance came amid growing interest in how Danantara might affect Indonesia’s broader economic governance structure. Rosan Roeslani, CEO of Danantara, previously disclosed that President Prabowo Subianto had instructed the agency to attend KSSK meetings regularly. According to Rosan, this directive aims to ensure that national economic policies consider the implications for businesses and the real economy, alongside conventional fiscal and monetary considerations. “KSSK will involve Danantara so that decisions have a direct, positive impact on the economy and business world, beyond just the fiscal and monetary sides,” he stated. The inclusion of Danantara in KSSK discussions aligns with broader reforms initiated under Prabowo’s leadership. Earlier this year, the government announced plans to reduce the number of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) managed by Danantara, cutting the total from over 400 to fewer than 200. These changes reflect a strategic shift toward streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency within the public sector. In addition to restructuring SOEs, Danantara has been actively expanding its portfolio through acquisitions. Recently, the agency acquired four asset managers with a combined $10.5 billion in assets under management. This acquisition underscores Danantara’s role as a key player in Indonesia’s evolving financial landscape, tasked with both managing state assets and influencing national economic policy. Beyond financial investments, Danantara has also focused on improving human resource management within the SOEs it oversees. The agency has implemented an integrated system designed to enhance workforce productivity and align employee performance with organizational goals. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to modernizing Indonesia’s public enterprise sector. The integration of Danantara into KSSK discussions marks a new phase in the relationship between private investment entities and government regulatory bodies. While the agency lacks formal decision-making powers, its presence signals a recognition of the importance of incorporating diverse perspectives into economic policymaking. As such, Danantara’s role continues to evolve, reflecting both the ambitions of its leadership and the directives of the nation’s highest office.
