Hrvaška, zračna nevihta in uničenje: huda poškodba kampov, čolnov in avtomobilov.

A powerful storm swept through the northern Adriatic region recently, causing widespread damage and injuring two individuals. The worst impacts were recorded in the Lussino archipelago, part of Croatia, where severe winds and tornadoes led to significant destruction. A woman was struck by lightning while walking along the beach of Baška on Monday morning, July 20, around 7:10 AM. She was carrying an umbrella at the time of the incident. A lifeguard was the first to assist her before she was transported via helicopter to the Clinical Hospital in Fiume, where she currently receives intensive care. The storm hit hardest during the night of July 18 to 19, when fierce gusts uprooted approximately 50 trees, pine and coniferous species, across the island. These fallen trees damaged parked cars, tents, and roads. Firefighters reported the extent of the destruction, noting that the force of the wind caused considerable disruption. On the mainland, Italian coastal areas near Trieste also faced strong winds and funnel clouds, though the damage there was less severe compared to the Croatian islands. In the waters surrounding Lussino, the storm wreaked havoc, with numerous boats being driven ashore by the gales. Many vessels found themselves stranded among rocks along the coastline, particularly on nearby smaller islands such as Unie and Sansego. The impact extended beyond land, as several boats in distress were reported off the coast of the Quarnero Gulf. One such vessel, carrying three Austrian tourists, was rescued by the Croatian coast guard before it sank. According to reports from Dolomiti, the crew was found in good condition on an emergency raft close to the damaged boat and subsequently transferred safely to the city of Pola. The coast guard and local authorities worked swiftly to respond to these incidents, coordinating efforts to ensure the safety of both residents and visitors. Rescue operations continued throughout the day, with teams navigating difficult conditions to reach those affected. The situation highlighted the unpredictable nature of weather patterns in the region, especially during the summer months when storms can develop rapidly. Local communities have expressed concern over the ongoing recovery efforts, emphasizing the need for support and resources to address the aftermath of the storm. The damage to infrastructure and personal property has raised questions about preparedness for future extreme weather events. Meanwhile, officials have called for increased vigilance and cooperation between regional authorities to better manage such crises. As the immediate crisis subsides, attention turns to long-term measures aimed at mitigating the effects of similar events in the future. The incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerability of coastal regions to sudden and severe weather changes. Efforts to improve early warning systems and community resilience will likely become priorities in the coming weeks. For now, the focus remains on ensuring the well-being of those impacted and restoring normalcy to the affected areas.
