Preston Lions, a club deeply connected to the Macedonian Australian community, issued a statement condemning the banners, emphasizing that they do not represent the club or its majority of supporters. The club reiterated its stance against such behavior, stating it would not tolerate it. Meanwhile, South Melbourne FC, known for its association with the Greek diaspora and referred to as the Hellas, praised its supporters for maintaining a disciplined and respectful demeanor throughout the match. The club acknowledged the passion of its fans while reaffirming its commitment to a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees. Football Victoria, the governing body overseeing the competition, described the actions of the Preston supporters as “abhorrent” and “deliberately intended to provoke, divide and inflame.” The organization called the behavior “disgraceful” and stated that those responsible should have no place in the sporting community.
