During the third weekend of July, authorities in Cali recorded 53 arrests, 10 homicides, and the seizure of 15 firearms, according to official reports. The operations took place between July 18 and 20, targeting high-impact crimes such as homicide, theft, and microtrafficking. Despite increased police efforts, homicide remains one of the most challenging offenses to address. The police deployed multiple strategies during the weekend, focusing on disrupting organized crime networks and reducing violence. A total of 53 individuals were arrested, with 44 apprehended in the act and nine detained under court orders. Among the seized items were 15 firearms containing 75 cartridges, along with over 30,649 doses of narcotics. These actions targeted drug trafficking and petty theft, particularly in areas such as La Flora, Mojica, Industrial, Eucarístico, Multicentro, San Fernando, and San Marino. In one notable operation, police intercepted a drug shipment through a courier service in the Calima neighborhood. The discovery was made using a trained canine unit from the National Intervention Police Unit (Unipol). The intercepted package was intended to be sent to the Cesar department. In addition, law enforcement recovered 14 stolen motorcycles and arrested nine adults and one minor for their alleged involvement in thefts against individuals and commercial establishments. Investigations into murder cases led to the arrest of a man charged with the killing of a woman who was murdered on July 16. Another arrest occurred in the El Retiro neighborhood, where a 16-year-old was detained for allegedly causing the death of a citizen with a sharp object. In the La Base area, a suspect was captured for attempted murder, while five others were detained for manufacturing, trafficking, carrying, or possessing firearms. Between July 18 and 20, 10 murders were reported across different communes in Cali. Preliminary investigations indicated that six of these deaths were linked to illegal disputes among criminal groups, two resulted from confrontations related to theft, and two occurred due to public altercations and residential conflicts. The Sunday proved the deadliest day, with five killings recorded. On Saturday, three fatal shootings were reported in various parts of the city. In the El Calvario neighborhood, a 22-year-old man was shot and later died after being taken to a medical facility. During the inspection, officers confiscated a revolver with six bullets from the victim. In Poblado II, a 28-year-old man was attacked with gunfire, reportedly in connection with a dispute. Additional incidents unfolded in other sectors, contributing to the overall toll of fatalities. Law enforcement agencies continue to intensify operations aimed at curbing violence and dismantling criminal networks.
