Over the last ten years, the French community has grown by more than 50 percent, making it the fastest-growing group of foreigners in the region. This growth is expected to continue, with projections suggesting that by 2028, French residents will outnumber Portuguese ones in the cantons of Geneva, Vaud, and Jura. Neuchâtel is anticipated to follow shortly after, with the transition likely occurring within the next few years. Professional opportunities have played a crucial role in attracting French migrants. The mother’s ability to find multiple potential jobs in a city like Neuchâtel, rather than having to frequently relocate due to unstable employment, was a major factor in her choice. She noted that in France, securing a rural position can be challenging, often requiring relocation of the entire family, which complicates personal and professional life.
