France has issued a public warning over the recall of nearly 260,000 substandard condoms, which could pose serious health risks to users. The country’s anti-fraud and health agencies announced the recall on Friday, citing laboratory findings that revealed defects in some of the products. These included a risk of bursting and, in one instance, the presence of perforations. The affected condoms were found to lack essential safety certifications, including the CE marking, which signifies compliance with European Economic Area standards. The majority of the recalled condoms were sold online through major marketplaces by Asian vendors. According to the government agencies, approximately 1,000 boxes, equivalent to 40,000 individual condoms, had already been sold before the recall was announced. The products in question include two brands manufactured by Japan’s Okamoto Industries and two other brands, MyLubie and Friday Bae, produced by Passage du Desir. The agencies emphasized that these items failed to meet basic safety requirements, including proper packaging in French and third-party conformity assessments. French officials stated that the online vendors had agreed to remove the affected listings and return the recalled products. They also urged consumers who had used the condoms to undergo testing for sexually transmitted infections and to take a pregnancy test if they suspected possible exposure. This advice follows concerns that the faulty condoms could contribute to unintended pregnancies or increase the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. In France, individuals aged up to 25 can access free condoms through pharmacies without a prescription, a policy introduced during President Emmanuel Macron’s administration.
